Der HERR gab mir Antwort und sagte: Schreib nieder, was du siehst, schreib es deutlich auf die Tafeln, damit man es mühelos lesen kann!
Then the LORD answered me and said,
“Record the vision
And inscribe it on tablets,
That the one who reads it may run.

Denn erst zu der bestimmten Zeit trifft ein, was du siehst; aber es drängt zum Ende und ist keine Täuschung; wenn es sich verzögert, so warte darauf; denn es kommt, es kommt und bleibt nicht aus.
“For the vision is yet for the appointed time;
It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it will not delay.

Sieh her: Wer nicht rechtschaffen ist, schwindet dahin, der Gerechte aber bleibt wegen seiner Treue am Leben.
“Behold, as for the proud one,
His soul is not right within him;
But the righteous will live by his faith.

Wahrhaftig, reiche Beute täuscht den hochmütigen Helden; er wird keinen Erfolg haben, reißt er auch wie die Unterwelt seinen Rachen auf und ist er auch wie der Tod unersättlich. Dann werden alle Völker sich gegen ihn versammeln und alle Nationen sich gegen ihn zusammenrotten.
“Furthermore, wine betrays the haughty man,
So that he does not stay at home.
He enlarges his appetite like Sheol,
And he is like death, never satisfied.

And collects to himself all peoples.

Werden sie nicht alle ein Spottlied auf ihn und einen Rätselspruch gegen ihn anstimmen? Ja, sie werden sagen: Weh dem, der zusammenrafft, was nicht ihm gehört, wie lange noch? — und sich hohe Pfänder geben lässt.
“Will not all of these take up a taunt-song against him,
Even mockery and insinuations against him
And say, ‘Woe to him who increases what is not his —
For how long —
And makes himself rich with loans?’

Werden nicht plötzlich die aufstehen, die dich beißen, und die aufwachen, die dich bedrängen? Dann wirst du zu ihrer Beute!
“Will not your creditors rise up suddenly,
And those who collect from you awaken?
Indeed, you will become plunder for them.

Du hast viele Völker ausgeplündert; deshalb plündern jetzt die Völker dich aus, die übrig blieben, wegen der Bluttaten am Menschen und der Gewalttaten an Land, Stadt und ihren Bewohnern.
“Because you have looted many nations,
All the remainder of the peoples will loot you —
Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.

Weh dem, der für sein Haus unrechten Gewinn sucht und sich hoch droben sein Nest baut, um dem drohenden Unheil zu entgehen!
“Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house
To put his nest on high,
To be delivered from the hand of calamity!
To put his nest on high,

Zur Schande für dein eigenes Haus hast du beschlossen, viele Völker niederzuschlagen; damit sündigst du gegen dich selbst.
“You have devised a shameful thing for your house
By cutting off many peoples;
So you are sinning against yourself.

Es schreit der Stein aus der Mauer und der Sparren gibt ihm Antwort aus dem Gebälk.
“Surely the stone will cry out from the wall,
And the rafter will answer it from the framework.

Weh dem, der eine Stadt mit Bluttat erbaut und eine Siedlung auf Unrecht gründet!
“Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed
And founds a town with violence!
And founds a town with violence!
Bewirkt es nicht der HERR der Heerscharen, dass die Völker sich plagen nur für das Feuer, Nationen sich abmühen für nichts?
“Is it not indeed from the LORD of hosts
That peoples toil for fire,
And nations grow weary for nothing?

Ja, das Land wird erfüllt sein von der Erkenntnis der Herrlichkeit des HERRN, so wie das Meer mit Wasser gefüllt ist.
“For the earth will be filled
With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
As the waters cover the sea.
With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,

Weh dem, der seinen Nächsten trinken lässt aus dem Becher seines Zorns, ja, ihn betrunken macht, damit man seine Blößen sieht!
“Woe to you who make your neighbors drink,
Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk
So as to look on their nakedness!

Du hast dich an Schande gesättigt statt an Ehre; nun trinke auch du und gerate ins Taumeln! Der Becher in der Hand des HERRN kommt nun zu dir; Schmach und Schande bedecken deine Ehre.
“You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor.
Now you yourself drink and expose your own nakedness.
The cup in the LORD’S right hand will come around to you,
And utter disgrace will come upon your glory.

Denn die Gewalttat am Libanon wird dich bedecken und die Vernichtung der Tiere wird dich tödlich erschrecken; wegen der Bluttaten am Menschen und wegen der Gewalttaten an Land, Stadt und all ihren Bewohnern.
“For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you,
And the devastation of its beasts by which you terrified them,
Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.

Was nützt ein Götterbild, denn ein Bildhauer hat es gemacht, ein gegossenes Bild und ein Lügenorakel, dass der Bildhauer auf sein Bild vertraut, um doch stumme Götzen anzufertigen?
“What profit is the idol when its maker has carved it,
Or an image, a teacher of falsehood?

Weh dem, der zum Holz sagt: Erwache! und zum stummen Stein: Wach auf! Gibt der Götze denn Auskunft? Gewiss, er ist mit Gold und Silber überzogen, doch er hat keinen Geist, keinen Atem.
“Woe to him who says to a piece of wood, ‘Awake!’
To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’
And that is your teacher?
Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver,
And there is no breath at all inside it.
