Der Viehbesitz der Rubeniter und Gaditer war groß und mächtig. Sie nahmen das Land Jaser und das Land Gilead in Augenschein und siehe, es war ein Ort für Viehherden.
The Tribes Settling East of the Jordan
Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock; and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that indeed the region was a place for livestock,

Darum kamen die Gaditer und die Rubeniter zu Mose, zu dem Priester Eleasar und zu den Anführern der Gemeinde und sagten:
the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,
Atarot, Dibon, Jaser, Nimra, Heschbon, Elale, Sibma, Nebo und Beon,
“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon,
das Land, das der HERR vor den Augen der Gemeinde Israel geschlagen hat, ist ein Land für Viehherden und deine Knechte haben Viehbesitz.
the country which the Lord defeated before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”
Sie sagten: Wenn wir Gnade in deinen Augen gefunden haben, dann gebe man dieses Land deinen Knechten als Grundbesitz. Lass uns nicht über den Jordan ziehen!
Therefore they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan.”
Mose antwortete den Gaditern und den Rubenitern: Sollen eure Brüder in den Krieg ziehen, während ihr hier wohnt?
And Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben: “Shall your brethren go to war while you sit here?
Warum wollt ihr den Israeliten den Mut nehmen, in das Land hinüberzuziehen, das der HERR ihnen gegeben hat?
Now why will you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord has given them?
Genauso haben es eure Väter gemacht, als ich sie von Kadesch-Barnea ausgeschickt hatte, das Land anzusehen.
Thus your fathers did when I sent them away from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.
Sie waren bis zum Traubental hinaufgezogen, hatten das Land angesehen und dann den Israeliten den Mut genommen, sodass sie das Land nicht mehr betreten wollten, das der HERR ihnen gegeben hatte.
For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them.
Damals entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN und er schwor:
So the Lord’s anger was aroused on that day, and He swore an oath, saying,
Auf keinen Fall werden die, die aus Ägypten heraufgekommen sind, die Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber, das Land zu sehen bekommen, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob mit einem Eid verheißen habe; denn sie haben nicht treu zu mir gehalten,
‘Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they have not wholly followed Me,
mit Ausnahme des Kenasiters Kaleb, des Sohnes Jefunnes, und Josuas, des Sohnes Nuns. Denn diese hielten treu zum HERRN.
except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the Lord.’
Der Zorn des HERRN entbrannte über Israel und er ließ sie vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste umherirren, bis die ganze Generation ausgestorben war, die getan hatte, was in den Augen des HERRN böse war.
So the Lord’s anger was aroused against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone.
Und siehe, jetzt kommt ihr anstelle eurer Väter, ihr Brut von Sündern, um den glühenden Zorn des HERRN auf Israel noch größer zu machen?
And look! You have risen in your fathers’ place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel.
Wenn ihr euch von ihm abwendet, wird er dieses ganze Volk noch länger in der Wüste lassen und ihr richtet dieses ganze Volk zugrunde.
For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.”
Da traten sie an Mose heran und sagten: Wir wollen hier Schaf- und Ziegen-Pferche für unser Vieh und Städte für unsere kleinen Kinder bauen.
Then they came near to him and said: “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones,
Wir selbst aber rüsten uns eilends und ziehen bewaffnet vor den Israeliten her, bis wir sie an ihren Ort gebracht haben. Unterdessen werden unsere kleinen Kinder in den Städten wohnen, die zum Schutz gegen die Einwohner des Landes befestigt sind.
but we ourselves will be armed, ready to go before the children of Israel until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones will dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
Wir kehren nicht in unsere Häuser zurück, bevor jeder der Israeliten seinen Erbbesitz erhalten hat.
Wir verlangen auf der anderen Seite des Jordan keinen Erbbesitz wie sie, wenn wir diesseits, östlich des Jordan, unseren Erbbesitz bekommen.
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this eastern side of the Jordan.”
Mose antwortete ihnen: Wenn ihr das tut, wenn ihr euch also vor den Augen des HERRN zum Kampf rüstet
Then Moses said to them: “If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves before the Lord for the war,
und jeder von euch, der sich gerüstet hat, vor den Augen des HERRN den Jordan überschreitet, bis er seine Feinde ausgerottet hat
and all your armed men cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven out His enemies from before Him,
und das Land vor dem HERRN unterworfen ist, und ihr danach umkehrt vor dem HERRN und dem HERRN und Israel gegenüber ohne Tadel gehandelt habt, dann wird dieses Land vor den Augen des HERRN euch als Grundbesitz gehören.
and the land is subdued before the Lord, then afterward you may return and be blameless before the Lord and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.
Wenn ihr das aber nicht tut, siehe, dann versündigt ihr euch gegen den HERRN. Dann habt ihr die Folgen für eure Sünde zu tragen; das müsst ihr wissen.
But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.
Baut euch Städte für eure kleinen Kinder und errichtet Pferche für eure Schafe und Ziegen! Aber haltet auch, was ihr versprochen habt!
Da sagten die Gaditer und die Rubeniter zu Mose: Deine Knechte werden tun, was mein Herr gebietet.
And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying: “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
Unsere kleinen Kinder, unsere Frauen und unsere Herden, unser ganzes Vieh, werden dort in den Städten von Gilead bleiben.
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock will be there in the cities of Gilead;
Alle deine Knechte aber werden sich für das Heer rüsten und vor den Augen des HERRN über den Jordan in den Krieg ziehen, wie mein Herr befiehlt.
but your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, just as my lord says.”
Mose gebot dem Priester Eleasar, Josua, dem Sohn Nuns, und den Familienhäuptern der Stämme der Israeliten:
So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel.
Er sagte zu ihnen: Wenn die Gaditer und die Rubeniter, zum Kampf gerüstet, vor den Augen des HERRN mit euch den Jordan überschreiten und das Land vor euch unterworfen ist, dann gebt ihnen das Land Gilead zum Grundbesitz!
And Moses said to them: “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben cross over the Jordan with you, every man armed for battle before the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead as a possession.
Wenn sie sich aber nicht rüsten und mit euch hinübergehen, dann sollen sie mitten unter euch in Kanaan Grundbesitz erhalten.
But if they do not cross over armed with you, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
Die Gaditer und die Rubeniter antworteten: Was der HERR zu deinen Knechten sagt, werden wir tun.
Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying: “As the Lord has said to your servants, so we will do.
Wir ziehen gerüstet vor den Augen des HERRN nach Kanaan hinüber, dann bleibt uns jenseits des Jordan vererbbarer Grundbesitz erhalten.
We will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, but the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us on this side of the Jordan.”
Da übergab Mose den Gaditern, den Rubenitern und dem halben Stamm des Manasse, des Sohnes Josefs, das Reich des Amoriterkönigs Sihon und das Reich Ogs, des Königs des Baschan, das Land und seine Städte mit den Gebieten der Städte des Landes ringsum.
So Moses gave to the children of Gad, to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities within the borders, the cities of the surrounding country.
Die Gaditer erbauten Dibon, Atarot, Aroër,
And the children of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer,
Bet-Nimra und Bet-Haran; befestigte Städte und Schaf- und Ziegenpferche.
Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
Die Rubeniter erbauten Heschbon, Elale, Kirjatajim,
And the children of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim,
Nebo und Baal-Meon, denen sie andere Namen gaben, sowie Sibma. Sie gaben nämlich den Städten, die sie wieder aufbauten, neue Namen.
Nebo and Baal Meon (their names being changed) and Shibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.
Die Söhne Machirs, des Sohnes des Manasse, zogen nach Gilead und eroberten es. Sie rotteten die Amoriter aus, die dort lebten.
Da übergab Mose Gilead dem Machir, dem Sohn des Manasse, und er wohnte dort.
So Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it.
Jaïr, der Sohn des Manasse, ging und eroberte ihre Zeltdörfer; er nannte sie Hawot-Jaïr.
