Jeder ordne sich den Trägern der staatlichen Gewalt unter. Denn es gibt keine staatliche Gewalt außer von Gott; die jetzt bestehen, sind von Gott eingesetzt.

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.

Wer sich daher der staatlichen Gewalt widersetzt, stellt sich gegen die Ordnung Gottes, und wer sich ihm entgegenstellt, wird dem Gericht verfallen.
Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.
Vor den Trägern der Macht hat sich nicht die gute, sondern die böse Tat zu fürchten; willst du also ohne Furcht vor der staatlichen Gewalt leben, dann tue das Gute, sodass du ihre Anerkennung findest!
For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same;
Denn sie steht im Dienst Gottes für dich zum Guten. Wenn du aber das Böse tust, fürchte dich! Denn nicht ohne Grund trägt sie das Schwert. Sie steht nämlich im Dienst Gottes und vollstreckt das Urteil an dem, der das Böse tut.
for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
Deshalb ist es notwendig, sich unterzuordnen, nicht allein um der Strafe, sondern auch um des Gewissens willen.
Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
Das ist auch der Grund, weshalb ihr Steuern zahlt; denn in Gottes Auftrag handeln jene, die Steuern einzuziehen haben.
For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.
Gebt allen, was ihr ihnen schuldig seid, Steuer, wem ihr Steuer schuldet, Zoll, wem ihr Zoll schuldet, Furcht, wem ihr Furcht schuldet, Ehre, wem ihr Ehre schuldet!
Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
Niemandem bleibt etwas schuldig, außer der gegenseitigen Liebe! Wer den andern liebt, hat das Gesetz erfüllt.
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Denn die Gebote: Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen, du sollst nicht töten, du sollst nicht stehlen, du sollst nicht begehren! und alle anderen Gebote sind in dem einen Satz zusammengefasst: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst.
For this, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”
Die Liebe tut dem Nächsten nichts Böses. Also ist die Liebe die Erfüllung des Gesetzes.
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Und das tut im Wissen um die gegenwärtige Zeit: Die Stunde ist gekommen, aufzustehen vom Schlaf. Denn jetzt ist das Heil uns näher als zu der Zeit, da wir gläubig wurden.
Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.
Die Nacht ist vorgerückt, der Tag ist nahe. Darum lasst uns ablegen die Werke der Finsternis und anlegen die Waffen des Lichts!
The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Lasst uns ehrenhaft leben wie am Tag, ohne maßloses Essen und Trinken, ohne Unzucht und Ausschweifung, ohne Streit und Eifersucht!
Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.
