»Ich werde sie gegeneinander aufhetzen«, spricht der Herr, »jeder wird gegen jeden kämpfen: Bruder gegen Bruder, Nachbar gegen Nachbar, Stadt gegen Stadt, Provinz gegen Provinz.

Dann können sie keinen klaren Gedanken mehr fassen; sogar die weisen Berater sind mit ihrer Kunst am Ende. Dafür sorge ich! Weil sie keinen Ausweg mehr wissen, suchen sie bei den Götzen Rat. Sie fragen Zauberer, Hellseher und Totenbeschwörer.

Wo sind sie denn, deine gelehrten Alleswisser, Pharao? Sollen sie doch herausfinden und dir verkünden, was der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, mit Ägypten vorhat!

Doch die weisen Männer von Zoan stehen dumm da, und auch die gelehrten Herren von Memfis haben sich getäuscht. Die Führer der Ägypter sind in Wirklichkeit Verführer.

Die Ägypter bringen nichts mehr zustande, was Hand und Fuß hat. Weder den Vornehmen und Angesehenen noch dem einfachen Volk gelingt etwas.

In dieser Zeit werden die Ägypter allen Mut verlieren. Erschrocken und zitternd ducken sie sich, weil der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, drohend die Faust gegen sie ballt.
In that day the Egyptians will become like women, and they will tremble and be in dread because of the waving of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which He is going to wave over them.
Vor dem Land Juda werden die Ägypter furchtbare Angst haben. Wenn sie nur den Namen Juda hören, schrecken sie schon zusammen, denn ihnen graut vor dem Plan, den der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, gegen Ägypten gefasst hat.
The land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt; everyone to whom it is mentioned will be in dread of it, because of the purpose of the LORD of hosts which He is purposing against them.
Zu der Zeit werden fünf Städte in Ägypten dem HERRN, dem allmächtigen Gott, die Treue schwören. Dort spricht man dann Hebräisch. Eine dieser Städte heißt Ir-Heres (»Stadt der Zerstörung«).

It will become a sign and a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Champion, and He will deliver them.
So wird der HERR sich den Ägyptern zu erkennen geben. Ja, in jener Zeit werden sie ihn kennen und ihm Tiere und andere Gaben opfern. Sie werden dem HERRN Gelübde ablegen und sich auch daran halten.
Thus the LORD will make Himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day. They will even worship with sacrifice and offering, and will make a vow to the LORD and perform it.
Zwar muss er sie erst hart bestrafen, doch gerade durch die Schläge bringt er sie auf den richtigen Weg: Sie werden sich ihm zuwenden, und er wird ihre Gebete erhören und sie wieder heilen.
