Blessings of Obedience
‘You shall not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves an image or a sacred pillar, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.

Haltet den Sabbat als Ruhetag ein, und habt Ehrfurcht vor meinem Heiligtum! Ich bin der HERR.
‘You shall keep My sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary; I am the LORD.
Wenn ihr nach meinen Weisungen lebt und meine Gebote beachtet,
‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments so as to carry them out,
werde ich es zur rechten Zeit regnen lassen, damit das Land reichen Ertrag bringt und die Bäume viele Früchte tragen.
then I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.
Dann dauert die Dreschzeit bis zur Weinlese und die Weinlese bis zur Aussaat. Ihr habt reichlich zu essen und wohnt sicher in eurem Land.
‘Indeed, your threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time. You will thus eat your food to the full and live securely in your land.
Ich, der Herr, schenke euch Frieden. Wenn ihr euch zur Ruhe legt, braucht ihr nicht zu befürchten, dass euch jemand aufschreckt. Die Raubtiere vertreibe ich aus dem Land, und kein feindliches Heer wird bei euch einfallen.
‘I shall also grant peace in the land, so that you may lie down with no one making you tremble. I shall also eliminate harmful beasts from the land, and no sword will pass through your land.
Ihr werdet eure Feinde vertreiben, ja, sie werden durch euer Schwert umkommen.
‘But you will chase your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword;
Fünf von euch schlagen hundert Feinde in die Flucht und hundert von euch ein Heer von zehntausend Soldaten. Ihr werdet sie mit dem Schwert töten.
five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.
Ich sorge für euch, ich schenke euch viele Kinder und stehe treu zu dem Bund, den ich mit euch geschlossen habe.
‘So I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will confirm My covenant with you.
Ihr werdet zu Beginn einer neuen Ernte immer noch vom Getreide des Vorjahrs essen und noch so viel übrig haben, dass ihr altes Getreide wegwerfen müsst, um Platz für das neue zu bekommen.
‘You will eat the old supply and clear out the old because of the new.
Ich selbst werde in meinem Heiligtum unter euch wohnen und mich nie wieder von euch abwenden.
‘Moreover, I will make My dwelling among you, and My soul will not reject you.
Ja, bei euch will ich leben, ich will euer Gott sein, und ihr sollt mein Volk sein.
‘I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.
Ich bin der HERR, euer Gott. Aus Ägypten habe ich euch befreit, denn ich wollte nicht, dass ihr dort noch länger Sklaven seid. Das harte Joch, das dort auf euch lastete, habe ich zerbrochen. Aufrecht und frei dürft ihr nun gehen!«
‘I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would not be their slaves, and I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.
»Wenn ihr mir aber nicht gehorcht und euch nicht an alle diese Gebote haltet,
Penalties of Disobedience
‘But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments,
wenn ihr meine Ordnungen missachtet und für meine Weisungen nichts mehr übrighabt, brecht ihr den Bund, den ich mit euch geschlossen habe.
if, instead, you reject My statutes, and if your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant,
Dann werdet ihr die Folgen zu spüren bekommen! Ich lasse plötzlich schweres Unheil über euch hereinbrechen, Fieber und unheilbare Krankheiten, die euch erblinden und zugrunde gehen lassen. Vergeblich werdet ihr eure Saat aussäen, denn die Feinde werden die ganze Ernte rauben.
I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the soul to pine away; also, you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up.
Ich selbst werde mich gegen euch wenden, ihr werdet von euren Feinden geschlagen und unterdrückt. Ständig seid ihr auf der Flucht, selbst wenn euch niemand verfolgt!
‘I will set My face against you so that you will be struck down before your enemies; and those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when no one is pursuing you.
Wenn ihr dann immer noch nicht auf mich hört, werde ich euch noch siebenmal härter für eure Sünden bestrafen.
‘If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
Euren unbeugsamen Stolz will ich dann brechen. Ich lasse es nicht mehr regnen; der Himmel über euch wird verschlossen sein, als wäre er aus Eisen, und der Ackerboden hart wie Stein.
‘I will also break down your pride of power; I will also make your sky like iron and your earth like bronze.
Vergeblich werdet ihr eure Kraft einsetzen: Die Felder bringen euch keinen Ertrag und die Bäume keine Frucht.
‘Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit.
Wenn ihr euch mir dann immer noch widersetzt und nicht auf mich hören wollt, werde ich euch noch siebenmal härter bestrafen, so wie ihr es für eure Sünden verdient.
‘If then, you act with hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you seven times according to your sins.
Ich lasse wilde Tiere auf euch los; sie fallen eure Kinder an, reißen euer Vieh und töten so viele von euch, dass die Straßen einsam und leer sind.
‘I will let loose among you the beasts of the field, which will bereave you of your children and destroy your cattle and reduce your number so that your roads lie deserted.
Wenn ihr euch dadurch immer noch nicht zurechtbringen lasst, sondern weiterhin nichts von mir wissen wollt,
‘And if by these things you are not turned to Me, but act with hostility against Me,
dann werde auch ich mich von euch abwenden und euch noch siebenmal härter für eure Sünden bestrafen.
then I will act with hostility against you; and I, even I, will strike you seven times for your sins.
Ich lasse Krieg in eurem Land ausbrechen und räche mich dafür, dass ihr meinen Bund mit euch gebrochen habt. Wenn ihr dann in euren Städten Schutz sucht, schicke ich euch die Pest, und ihr fallt euren Feinden in die Hände.
‘I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you, so that you shall be delivered into enemy hands.
Eure Lebensmittelvorräte lasse ich zu Ende gehen. Zehn Frauen werden ihr Brot in nur einem Ofen backen und es anschließend genau abwiegen und aufteilen müssen. Von dem wenigen, das euch bleibt, werdet ihr nicht satt!
‘When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread in rationed amounts, so that you will eat and not be satisfied.
Hört ihr danach immer noch nicht auf mich und kehrt mir weiter den Rücken,
‘Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me,
dann werde ich mich voller Zorn gegen euch wenden und euch noch siebenmal härter wegen eurer Sünden bestrafen.
then I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I, even I, will punish you seven times for your sins.
Vor Hunger werdet ihr eure eigenen Kinder essen.
‘Further, you will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters you will eat.
Ich lasse eure Opferstätten zerstören, eure Räucheropferaltäre zerschlagen und eure Leichen bei den leblosen Figuren eurer Götter verrotten. Ich werde euch verabscheuen,
‘I then will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and heap your remains on the remains of your idols, for My soul shall abhor you.
eure Städte in Schutt und Asche legen und eure Heiligtümer zerstören! Eure Opfer werde ich nicht annehmen und mich von ihrem Duft nicht besänftigen lassen.
‘I will lay waste your cities as well and will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your soothing aromas.
Euer Land mache ich zu einer menschenleeren Wüste; sogar eure Feinde, die sich dort niederlassen, werden entsetzt darüber sein.
‘I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled over it.
Euch selbst zerstreue ich unter fremde Völker und ziehe noch dort mein Schwert, um euch zu vernichten. Euer Land wird zur Einöde, und eure Städte werden zu Trümmerhaufen.
‘You, however, I will scatter among the nations and will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become waste.
Während ihr im Land eurer Feinde wohnen müsst, liegt euer Land brach. Dann bekommt es endlich die Ruhejahre,
‘Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths.
die ihr immer missachtet habt, solange ihr dort wohntet. Wenn dies geschieht, kann das Land endlich ausruhen.
‘All the days of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it.
Diejenigen, die meine Strafen überleben und in fremden Ländern wohnen müssen, mache ich so verzagt, dass schon das Rascheln eines verwelkten Blattes sie davonlaufen lässt, als ginge es um ihr Leben. Sie werden fliehen und stürzen, auch wenn niemand sie verfolgt.
‘As for those of you who may be left, I will also bring weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee as though from the sword, and they will fall.
Einer stolpert über den anderen; sie fliehen, als jagte ein ganzes Heer ihnen nach. Euren Feinden werdet ihr nicht standhalten können.
‘They will therefore stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand up before your enemies.
Bei fremden Völkern werdet ihr zugrunde gehen, ja, das Land eurer Feinde bringt euch den Tod!
‘But you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you.
Die Übriggebliebenen siechen in fernen Ländern dahin wegen ihrer Schuld und der Schuld ihrer Vorfahren.
‘So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their forefathers they will rot away with them.
Dann werden sie bekennen, dass sie und ihre Vorfahren mir die Treue gebrochen haben und nichts mehr von mir wissen wollten.
‘If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me —
Darum habe auch ich mich von ihnen abgewandt und sie ins Land ihrer Feinde gebracht. Doch wenn ihr stolzes Herz sich vor mir demütigt und ihre Schuld genug bestraft ist,
I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies — or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that they then make amends for their iniquity,
dann werde ich an meinen Bund mit Jakob, Isaak und Abraham denken. Ich will mich daran erinnern, dass ich ihren Nachkommen das Land für immer versprochen habe.
then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land.
Vorher aber müssen die Israeliten das Land verlassen, damit es brachliegt und seine Ruhejahre bekommt. Alle Bewohner müssen für ihre Schuld bestraft werden, weil sie meine Gebote abgelehnt und meine Weisungen verworfen haben.
‘For the land will be abandoned by them, and will make up for its sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and their soul abhorred My statutes.
Doch selbst wenn sie im Land ihrer Feinde leben müssen, will ich mich nicht völlig von ihnen abwenden und nur Abscheu für sie empfinden. Ich lasse sie nicht alle zugrunde gehen, meinen Bund mit ihnen breche ich nicht, denn ich bin der HERR, ihr Gott!
‘Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
Nein, um ihretwillen denke ich an den Bund, den ich mit ihren Vorfahren geschlossen habe. Ich habe ihre Vorfahren vor den Augen aller Völker aus Ägypten befreit, um ihr Gott zu sein, ich, der HERR!«
‘But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.’”
