Der HERR antwortete mir: »Meißle dir zwei Steintafeln zurecht wie die ersten beiden, die du zerschmettert hast, und komm damit zu mir auf den Berg! Fertige auch einen Kasten aus Holz an,
in den du sie legen kannst. Ich werde noch einmal dasselbe auf die Steintafeln schreiben wie beim ersten Mal.«
I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”
Ich fertigte den Kasten aus Akazienholz an; dann meißelte ich aus Stein zwei Tafeln zurecht, mit denen ich auf den Berg stieg.
So I made the ark out of acacia wood and chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.
Der HERR schrieb noch einmal die Zehn Gebote darauf, die er euch gegeben hatte, als ihr unten am Berg versammelt wart und er aus dem Feuer zu euch sprach. Dann gab er mir die Tafeln,
The Lord wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the Lord gave them to me.
und ich kehrte damit zu euch zurück und legte sie in den Kasten, den ich gebaut hatte. Dort sind sie noch immer, wie der HERR es befohlen hat.
Then I came back down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, as the Lord commanded me, and they are there now.
Die Israeliten brachen auf und zogen von Beerot-Bene-Jaakan nach Moser. Dort starb Aaron und wurde begraben. Sein Sohn Eleasar wurde an seiner Stelle Hoherpriester.
(The Israelites traveled from the wells of Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest.
Dann zog das Volk weiter nach Gudgoda und von dort nach Jotbata, wo es viele Bäche gibt.
From there they traveled to Gudgodah and on to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water.
Damals wählte der HERR den Stamm Levi für eine besondere Aufgabe aus: Sie sollten den Kasten mit den Steintafeln — die Bundeslade — tragen, dem HERRN im Heiligtum dienen und in seinem Namen den Segen erteilen. So ist es bis heute geblieben.
At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.
Deshalb bekommen die Leviten kein eigenes Gebiet wie die anderen Stämme. Der HERR selbst ist ihr Anteil und Erbe; er sorgt für sie, wie er es ihnen versprochen hat.
That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance, as the Lord your God told them.)
Als ich zum zweiten Mal vierzig Tage und Nächte auf dem Berg war, erhörte mich der HERR und beschloss, euch nicht zu vernichten.
Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, as I did the first time, and the Lord listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.
Er forderte mich auf: »Gib den Israeliten den Befehl zum Aufbruch und geh ihnen voran! Sie sollen nun in das versprochene Land ziehen und es einnehmen. Ich will es ihnen jetzt geben, wie ich es ihren Vorfahren zugesagt habe.«
“Go,” the Lord said to me, “and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”
Nun, ihr Israeliten! Was verlangt der HERR, euer Gott, von euch? Nichts anderes, als dass ihr ihn achtet und immer seinen Wegen folgt, dass ihr ihn liebt und ihm von ganzem Herzen und mit aller Hingabe dient.
Fear the Lord
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
Richtet euch nach seinen Geboten und Ordnungen, die ich euch heute gebe! Dann wird es euch gut gehen.
and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Dem HERRN, eurem Gott, gehört der weite Himmel, die Erde und alles, was es darauf gibt.
To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
Doch euren Vorfahren wandte er seine besondere Liebe zu. Euch, ihre Nachkommen, hat er aus allen Völkern auserwählt, sein Volk zu sein. Das seid ihr heute noch!
Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations — as it is today.
Deshalb wendet euch von ganzem Herzen dem Herrn zu, und gebt euren hartnäckigen Widerstand auf!
Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.
Denn der HERR, euer Gott, ist größer als alle Götter und mächtiger als alle Herrscher! Er ist der große und starke Gott, den man fürchten muss. Er ist gerecht und unbestechlich.
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
Den Waisen und Witwen verhilft er zu ihrem Recht. Er liebt die Ausländer und gibt ihnen Nahrung und Kleidung.
He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.
Zeigt auch ihr den Ausländern eure Liebe! Denn ihr habt selbst einmal als Ausländer in Ägypten gelebt.
And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.
Habt Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott! Dient ihm und bleibt eng mit ihm verbunden! Schwört nur bei seinem Namen!
Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.
Ihr könnt stolz darauf sein, dass er euer Gott ist! Welche gewaltigen und furchterregenden Taten hat er vor euren Augen vollbracht!
He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.
Als eure Vorfahren nach Ägypten zogen, waren sie nur siebzig Leute. Heute hat der HERR, euer Gott, ein großes Volk aus euch gemacht, so zahlreich wie die Sterne am Himmel.
Your ancestors who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
