Die Kinder Rubens, des Ersten Sohnes Israels (denn er war der erste Sohn; aber damit, daß er seines Vaters Bett entweihte, ward seine Erstgeburt gegeben den Kindern Josephs, des Sohnes Israels, und er ward nicht aufgezeichnet zur Erstgeburt;

Dies ist ein Verzeichnis der Nachkommen von Ruben, dem ältesten Sohn von Israel. Ruben war der erste Sohn. Aber weil er mit einer Frau seines Vaters geschlafen hatte, musste er sein Erstgeburtsrecht an die Söhne seines Bruders Josef abtreten. Ruben ist deshalb in den Geschlechtsregistern nicht als der Älteste eingetragen.

Die Söhne Rubens, des Erstgeborenen Israels: Ruben war der Erstgeborene. Da er aber das Bett seines Vaters entweiht hatte, wurde sein Erstgeburtsrecht den Söhnen Josefs, des Sohnes Israels, gegeben. Doch richten sich die Stammeslisten nicht nach dem Erstgeburtsrecht;

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright. -
