Da sprach Salomo: Der HERR hat geredet, er wolle wohnen im Dunkel.

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

Then Solomon spoke:
“The Lord said He would dwell in the dark cloud.

So habe ich nun ein Haus gebaut dir zur Wohnung, und einen Sitz, da du ewiglich wohnest.

I have surely built You an exalted house,
And a place for You to dwell in forever.”

Und der König wandte sein Antlitz und segnete die ganze Gemeinde Israel; denn die ganze Gemeinde Israel stand.

Solomon’s Speech upon Completion of the Work

Then the king turned around and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.

Und er sprach: Gelobet sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, der durch seinen Mund meinem Vater David geredet und es mit seiner Hand erfüllet hat, da er sagte:

And he said: “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His hands what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,

Seit der Zeit, da ich mein Volk aus Ägyptenland geführt habe, habe ich keine Stadt erwählt in allen Stämmen Israels, ein Haus zu bauen, daß mein Name daselbst wäre, und habe auch keinen Mann erwählt, daß er Fürst wäre über mein Volk Israel;

‘Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there, nor did I choose any man to be a ruler over My people Israel.

aber Jerusalem habe ich erwählt, daß mein Name daselbst sei, und David habe ich erwählt, daß er über mein Volk Israel sei.

Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’

Und da es mein Vater im Sinn hatte, ein Haus zu bauen dem Namen des HERRN, des Gottes Israels,

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a [a]temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

sprach der HERR zu meinem Vater David: Du hast wohl getan, daß du im Sinn hast, meinem Namen ein Haus zu bauen.

But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well in that it was in your heart.

Doch du sollst das Haus nicht bauen, sondern dein Sohn, der aus deinen Lenden kommen wird, soll meinem Namen das Haus bauen.

Nevertheless you shall not build the temple, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the temple for My name.’

So hat nun der HERR sein Wort bestätigt, das er geredet hat; denn ich bin aufgekommen an meines Vaters David Statt und sitze auf dem Stuhl Israels, wie der HERR geredet hat, und habe ein Haus gebaut dem Namen des HERRN, des Gottes Israels,

So the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke, and I have filled the position of my father David, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised; and I have built the temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

und habe hineingetan die Lade, darin der Bund des HERRN ist, den er mit den Kindern Israel gemacht hat.

And there I have put the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord which He made with the children of Israel.”

Und er trat vor den Altar des HERRN vor der ganzen Gemeinde Israel und breitete seine Hände aus

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

Then [b]Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands

(denn Salomo hatte eine eherne Kanzel gemacht und gesetzt mitten in den Vorhof, fünf Ellen lang und breit und drei Ellen hoch; auf dieselbe trat er und fiel nieder auf seine Kniee vor der ganzen Gemeinde Israel und breitete seine Hände aus gen Himmel

(for Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and he stood on it, knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven);

und sprach: HERR, Gott Israels, es ist kein Gott dir gleich, weder im Himmel noch auf Erden, der du hältst den Bund und die Barmherzigkeit deinen Knechten, die vor dir wandeln aus ganzem Herzen.

and he said: “Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven or on earth like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.

Du hast gehalten deinem Knechte David, meinem Vater, was du ihm geredet hast; mit deinem Munde hast du es geredet, und mit deiner Hand hast du es erfüllt, wie es heutigestages steht.

You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father; You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.

Nun, HERR, Gott Israels, halte deinem Knechte David, meinem Vater, was du ihm verheißen hast und gesagt: Es soll dir nicht gebrechen an einem Manne vor mir, der auf dem Stuhl Israels sitze, doch sofern deine Kinder ihren Weg bewahren, daß sie wandeln in meinem Gesetz, wie du vor mir gewandelt hast.

Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’

Nun, HERR, Gott Israels, laß dein Wort wahr werden, das du deinem Knechte David geredet hast.

And now, O Lord God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David.

Denn sollte in Wahrheit Gott bei den Menschen wohnen? Siehe, der Himmel und aller Himmel Himmel können dich nicht fassen; wie sollte es denn das Haus tun, das ich gebaut habe?

“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this [c]temple which I have built!

Wende dich aber, HERR, mein Gott, zu dem Gebet deines Knechtes und zu seinem Flehen, daß du erhörest das Bitten und Beten, das dein Knecht vor dir tut;

Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You:

daß deine Augen offen seien über dies Haus Tag und Nacht, über die Stätte, dahin du deinen Namen zu stellen verheißen hast; daß du hörest das Gebet, das dein Knecht an dieser Stätte tun wird.

that Your eyes may be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your name, that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place.

So höre nun das Flehen deines Knechtes und deines Volkes Israel, das sie bitten werden an dieser Stätte; höre es aber von der Stätte deiner Wohnung, vom Himmel. Und wenn du es hörst, wollest du gnädig sein.

And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and when You hear, forgive.

Wenn jemand wider seinen Nächsten sündigen wird und es wird ihm ein Eid aufgelegt, den er schwören soll, und der Eid kommt vor deinen Altar in diesem Hause:

“If anyone sins against his neighbor, and is forced to take an oath, and comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this temple,

so wollest du hören vom Himmel und deinem Knechte Recht verschaffen, daß du dem Gottlosen vergeltest und gebest seinen Wandel auf seinen Kopf und rechtfertigst den Gerechten und gebest ihm nach seiner Gerechtigkeit.

then hear from heaven, and act, and judge Your servants, bringing retribution on the wicked by bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.

Wenn dein Volk Israel vor seinen Feinden geschlagen wird, weil sie an dir gesündigt haben, und sie bekehren sich und bekennen deinen Namen, bitten und flehen vor dir in diesem Hause:

“Or if Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and return and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication before You in this temple,

so wollest du hören vom Himmel und gnädig sein der Sünde deines Volkes Israel und sie wieder in das Land bringen, das du ihnen und ihren Vätern gegeben hast.

then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to them and their fathers.

Wenn der Himmel zugeschlossen wird, daß es nicht regnet, weil sie an dir gesündigt haben, und sie bitten an dieser Stätte und bekennen deinen Namen und bekehren sich von ihren Sünden, weil du sie gedemütigt hast:

“When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them,

so wollest du hören im Himmel und gnädig sein der Sünde deiner Knechte und deines Volkes Israel, daß du sie den guten Weg lehrest, darin sie wandeln sollen, und regnen lassest auf dein Land, das du deinem Volk gegeben hast zu besitzen.

then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.

Wenn eine Teuerung im Land wird oder Pestilenz oder Dürre, Brand, Heuschrecken, Raupen, oder wenn sein Feind im Lande seine Tore belagert oder irgend eine Plage oder Krankheit da ist;

“When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is;

wer dann bittet oder fleht, es seien allerlei Menschen oder dein ganzes Volk Israel, so jemand seine Plage und Schmerzen fühlt und seine Hände ausbreitet zu diesem Hause:

whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands to this temple:

so wollest du hören vom Himmel, vom Sitz deiner Wohnung, und gnädig sein und jedermann geben nach all seinem Wandel, nach dem du sein Herz erkennst (denn du allein erkennst das Herz der Menschenkinder ),

then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men),

auf daß sie dich fürchten und wandeln in deinen Wegen alle Tage, solange sie leben in dem Lande, das du unsern Vätern gegeben hast.

that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You gave to our fathers.

Wenn auch ein Fremder, der nicht von deinem Volk Israel ist, kommt aus fernen Landen um deines großen Namens und deiner mächtigen Hand und deines ausgereckten Armes willen und betet vor diesem Hause:

“Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray in this temple;

so wollest du hören vom Himmel, vom Sitz deiner Wohnung, und tun alles, warum er dich anruft, auf daß alle Völker auf Erden deinen Namen erkennen und dich fürchten wie dein Volk Israel und innewerden, daß dies Haus, das ich gebaut habe, nach deinem Namen genannt sei.

then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, that all peoples of the earth may know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that [d]this temple which I have built is called by Your name.

Wenn dein Volk auszieht in den Streit wider seine Feinde des Weges, den du sie senden wirst, und sie zu dir beten nach dieser Stadt hin, die du erwählt hast und nach dem Hause, das ich deinem Namen gebaut habe:

“When Your people go out to battle against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name,

so wollest du ihr Gebet und Flehen hören vom Himmel und ihnen zu ihrem Recht helfen.

then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

Wenn sie an dir sündigen werden (sintemal kein Mensch ist, der nicht sündige, und du über sie erzürnst und gibst sie dahin vor ihren Feinden, daß sie sie gefangen wegführen in ein fernes oder nahes Land,

“When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to a land far or near;

und sie in ihr Herz schlagen in dem Lande, darin sie gefangen sind, und bekehren sich und flehen zu dir im Lande ihres Gefängnisses und sprechen: Wir haben gesündigt, übel getan und sind gottlos gewesen,

yet when they [e]come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, and have committed wickedness’;

und sich also von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele zu dir bekehren im Lande ihres Gefängnisses, da man sie gefangen hält, und sie beten nach ihrem Lande hin, das du ihren Vätern gegeben hast, und nach der Stadt hin, die du erwählt hast, und nach dem Hause, das ich deinem Namen gebaut habe:

and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been carried captive, and pray toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the city which You have chosen, and toward the temple which I have built for Your name:

so wollest du ihr Gebet und Flehen hören vom Himmel, vom Sitz deiner Wohnung, und ihnen zu ihrem Recht helfen und deinem Volk gnädig sein, das an dir gesündigt hat.

then hear from heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive Your people who have sinned against You.

So laß nun, mein Gott, deine Augen offen sein und deine Ohren aufmerken auf das Gebet an dieser Stätte.

Now, my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place.

So mache dich nun auf, HERR, Gott, zu deiner Ruhe, du und die Lade deiner Macht. Laß deine Priester, HERR, Gott, mit Heil angetan werden und deine Heiligen sich freuen über dem Guten.

“Now therefore,
Arise, O Lord God, to Your resting place,
You and the ark of Your strength.
Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
And let Your saints rejoice in goodness.

Du, HERR, Gott, wende nicht weg das Antlitz deines Gesalbten; gedenke an die Gnaden, deinem Knechte David verheißen.

“O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed;
Remember the mercies of Your servant David.”
