Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”
Wer, sagte sie, hätte Abraham zu sagen gewagt, Sara werde noch Kinder stillen? Und nun habe ich ihm noch in seinem Alter einen Sohn geboren.
And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
Das Kind wuchs heran und wurde entwöhnt. Als Isaak entwöhnt wurde, veranstaltete Abraham ein großes Festmahl.
Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away

But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,
Da sagte sie zu Abraham: Vertreibe diese Magd und ihren Sohn! Denn der Sohn dieser Magd soll nicht zusammen mit meinem Sohn Isaak Erbe sein.
and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.”
Die Sache war sehr böse in Abrahams Augen, denn es ging um seinen Sohn.
The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son.
Gott sprach aber zu Abraham: Die Sache wegen des Knaben und wegen deiner Magd sei nicht böse in deinen Augen. Hör auf alles, was dir Sara sagt! Denn nach Isaak sollen deine Nachkommen benannt werden.
Aber auch den Sohn der Magd will ich zu einem großen Volk machen, weil auch er dein Nachkomme ist.

Früh am Morgen stand Abraham auf, nahm Brot und einen Schlauch mit Wasser und gab es Hagar, legte es ihr auf die Schulter, übergab ihr das Kind und entließ sie. Sie zog fort und irrte in der Wüste von Beerscheba umher.
Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.

Gott hörte den Knaben schreien; da rief der Engel Gottes vom Himmel her Hagar zu und sprach: Was hast du, Hagar? Fürchte dich nicht, denn Gott hat die Stimme des Knaben gehört, dort, wo er liegt.
God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.
Steh auf, nimm den Knaben hoch und halt ihn fest an deiner Hand; denn zu einem großen Volk will ich ihn machen.
Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
Gott öffnete ihr die Augen und sie erblickte einen Brunnen. Sie ging hin, füllte den Schlauch mit Wasser und gab dem Knaben zu trinken.
Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.
Gott war mit dem Knaben. Er wuchs heran, ließ sich in der Wüste nieder und wurde ein Bogenschütze.
God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer.
Er ließ sich in der Wüste Paran nieder und seine Mutter nahm ihm eine Frau aus Ägypten.
While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.
Um jene Zeit sagten Abimelech und sein Feldherr Pichol zu Abraham: Gott ist mit dir bei allem, was du unternimmst.
The Treaty at Beersheba

Aber nun schwör mir hier bei Gott, dass du weder mich noch meinen Thronerben noch meine Kinder und Enkel hintergehen wirst. Das gleiche Wohlwollen, das ich dir erwiesen habe, sollst du mir erweisen und dem Land, in dem du dich als Fremder aufhältst.
Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you now reside as a foreigner the same kindness I have shown to you.”
Abraham stellte aber Abimelech zur Rede wegen des Brunnens, den ihm Abimelechs Knechte mit Gewalt weggenommen hatten.
Then Abraham complained to Abimelek about a well of water that Abimelek’s servants had seized.
Abimelech antwortete: Ich weiß nicht, wer das getan hat. Du hast es mir nicht gemeldet und ich habe auch erst heute davon gehört.
But Abimelek said, “I don’t know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today.”
Da nahm Abraham Schafe und Rinder und gab sie Abimelech; so schlossen beide einen Bund.
So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelek, and the two men made a treaty.
Abraham stellte aber sieben Lämmer der Herde beiseite.
Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs from the flock,
Da fragte ihn Abimelech: Was sollen die sieben Lämmer da, die du beiseitegestellt hast?
and Abimelek asked Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs you have set apart by themselves?”
Die sieben Lämmer, sagte er, sollst du von mir annehmen als Beweis dafür, dass ich diesen Brunnen gegraben habe.
He replied, “Accept these seven lambs from my hand as a witness that I dug this well.”
Darum gab er dem Ort den Namen Beerscheba — Siebenbrunn oder Schwurbrunn — ; denn dort leisteten beide einen Schwur.
Sie schlossen also zu Beerscheba einen Bund. Dann machten sich Abimelech und sein Feldherr Pichol auf und kehrten ins Philisterland zurück.
After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines.
Abraham aber pflanzte eine Tamariske in Beerscheba und rief dort den HERRN an unter dem Namen: Gott, der Ewige.
Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.
