Nach diesen Ereignissen stellte Gott Abraham auf die Probe. Er sprach zu ihm: Abraham! Er sagte: Hier bin ich.
The Offering of Isaac
Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Er sprach: Nimm deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, den du liebst, Isaak, geh in das Land Morija und bring ihn dort auf einem der Berge, den ich dir nenne, als Brandopfer dar!
He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.”
Frühmorgens stand Abraham auf, sattelte seinen Esel, nahm zwei seiner Jungknechte mit sich und seinen Sohn Isaak, spaltete Holz zum Brandopfer und machte sich auf den Weg zu dem Ort, den ihm Gott genannt hatte.
So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.
Als Abraham am dritten Tag seine Augen erhob, sah er den Ort von Weitem.
On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance.
Da sagte Abraham zu seinen Jungknechten: Bleibt mit dem Esel hier! Ich aber und der Knabe, wir wollen dorthin gehen und uns niederwerfen; dann wollen wir zu euch zurückkehren.
Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.”
Abraham nahm das Holz für das Brandopfer und lud es seinem Sohn Isaak auf. Er selbst nahm das Feuer und das Messer in die Hand. So gingen beide miteinander.
Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.
Da sprach Isaak zu seinem Vater Abraham. Er sagte: Mein Vater! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich, mein Sohn! Dann sagte Isaak: Hier ist Feuer und Holz. Wo aber ist das Lamm für das Brandopfer?
Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Abraham sagte: Gott wird sich das Lamm für das Brandopfer ausersehen, mein Sohn. Und beide gingen miteinander weiter.
Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.
Als sie an den Ort kamen, den ihm Gott genannt hatte, baute Abraham dort den Altar, schichtete das Holz auf, band seinen Sohn Isaak und legte ihn auf den Altar, oben auf das Holz.
Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
Abraham streckte seine Hand aus und nahm das Messer, um seinen Sohn zu schlachten.
Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
Da rief ihm der Engel des HERRN vom Himmel her zu und sagte: Abraham, Abraham! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich.
But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Er sprach: Streck deine Hand nicht gegen den Knaben aus und tu ihm nichts zuleide! Denn jetzt weiß ich, dass du Gott fürchtest; du hast mir deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, nicht vorenthalten.
He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
Abraham erhob seine Augen, sah hin und siehe, ein Widder hatte sich hinter ihm mit seinen Hörnern im Gestrüpp verfangen. Abraham ging hin, nahm den Widder und brachte ihn statt seines Sohnes als Brandopfer dar.
Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.
Abraham gab jenem Ort den Namen: Der HERR sieht, wie man noch heute sagt: Auf dem Berg lässt sich der HERR sehen.
Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the LORD it will be provided.”
Der Engel des HERRN rief Abraham zum zweiten Mal vom Himmel her zu
Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven,
und sprach: Ich habe bei mir geschworen — Spruch des HERRN: Weil du das getan hast und deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, mir nicht vorenthalten hast,
and said, “By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son,
will ich dir Segen schenken in Fülle und deine Nachkommen überaus zahlreich machen wie die Sterne am Himmel und den Sand am Meeresstrand. Deine Nachkommen werden das Tor ihrer Feinde einnehmen.
indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.
Segnen werden sich mit deinen Nachkommen alle Völker der Erde, weil du auf meine Stimme gehört hast.
“In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
Darauf kehrte Abraham zu seinen Jungknechten zurück. Sie machten sich auf und gingen miteinander nach Beerscheba. Abraham blieb in Beerscheba wohnen.
So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived at Beersheba.
Nach diesen Ereignissen meldete man Abraham: Siehe, auch Milka hat deinem Bruder Nahor Söhne geboren:
Now it came about after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, “Behold, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor:
Uz, seinen Erstgeborenen, dessen Bruder Bus und Kemuël, den Stammvater der Aramäer,
Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram
ferner Kesed, Haso, Pildasch, Jidlaf und Betuël.
and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel.”
Betuël zeugte Rebekka. Diese acht gebar Milka dem Nahor, dem Bruder Abrahams.
Bethuel became the father of Rebekah; these eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.
