Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
Er setzt dem Finstern eine Grenze, er forscht hinein bis in das Letzte, bis ins düstere, dunkle Gestein.
He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
Er gräbt einen Stollen, wo niemand wohnt und an sie denkt; ohne Halt für den Fuß hängen sie, fern von Menschen schweben sie.
The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
Die Erde, daraus das Brotkorn hervorgeht, wird in den Tiefen wie mit Feuer umgewühlt.

Fundort des Saphirs ist ihr Gestein und Goldstaub findet sich darin.

In Felsen haut er Stollen ein und lauter Kostbarkeiten erblickt sein Auge.
He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
Sickerbäche dämmt er ein, Verborgenes bringt er ans Licht.
He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
Die Weisheit aber, wo ist sie zu finden und wo ist der Ort der Einsicht?
Wisdom an Excellent Gift of God
But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

Kein Mensch kennt die Schicht, in der sie liegt; sie findet sich nicht in der Lebenden Land.
Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Die Urflut sagt: Bei mir ist sie nicht. Der Ozean sagt: Bei mir weilt sie nicht.
The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
Man kann nicht Feingold für sie geben, nicht Silber als Preis für sie wägen.
It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
Nicht wiegt sie Gold aus Ofir auf, kein kostbarer Karneol, kein Saphir.
It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
Gold und Glas stehen ihr nicht gleich, kein Tausch für sie ist Goldgerät,
The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
nicht zu reden von Korallen und Kristall; weit über Perlen geht der Weisheit Besitz.
No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
Der Topas von Kusch kommt ihr nicht gleich und reinstes Gold wiegt sie nicht auf.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
Die Weisheit aber, wo kommt sie her und wo ist der Ort der Einsicht?
Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
Verhüllt ist sie vor aller Lebenden Auge, verborgen vor den Vögeln des Himmels.
Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
Abgrund und Tod sagen: Unser Ohr vernahm von ihr nur ein Raunen.
Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
Gott ist es, der den Weg zu ihr weiß, er ist es, der ihren Ort kennt.
God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
Denn er blickt bis hin zu den Enden der Erde; was unter dem All des Himmels ist, sieht er.
For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
Als er dem Wind sein Gewicht schuf und die Wasser nach Maß bestimmte,
To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
als er dem Regen das Gesetz schuf und einen Weg dem Donnergewölk,
When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
damals hat er sie gesehen und gezählt, sie festgestellt und erforscht.
Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
