Gott, wir hörten es mit eigenen Ohren, unsere Väter haben uns erzählt von dem Werk, das du in ihren Tagen vollbracht hast, in den Tagen der Vorzeit.
How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
Mit eigener Hand hast du Völker vertrieben, sie aber pflanztest du ein. Du hast Nationen zerschlagen, sie aber sätest du aus.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
Denn nicht mit ihrem Schwert nahmen sie das Land in Besitz und nicht ihr Arm hat ihnen Rettung gebracht; nein, deine Rechte war es, dein Arm und das Licht deines Angesichts; denn du hattest an ihnen Gefallen.
Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.
Du bist es, mein König, Gott! Gebiete rettende Taten für Jakob!
Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
Mit dir stoßen wir unsere Bedränger nieder, in deinem Namen zertreten wir, die gegen uns aufstehn.
For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
Denn ich vertraue nicht auf meinen Bogen, noch wird mein Schwert mir Rettung bringen;
But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
nein, du hast uns vor unseren Bedrängern gerettet; du hast mit Schmach bedeckt, die uns hassen.
In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
Wir rühmten uns Gottes den ganzen Tag und deinem Namen werden wir ewig danken. [Sela]
But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
Doch nun hast du uns verstoßen und mit Schmach bedeckt, du ziehst nicht mehr aus mit unseren Heeren.
Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
Du lässt uns vor unsern Bedrängern fliehen und die uns hassen, plünderten uns aus.
Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
Du gibst uns preis wie Schlachtvieh und unter die Völker hast du uns zerstreut.
Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
Du verkaufst dein Volk um ein Spottgeld und hattest an dem Erlös keinen Gewinn.
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
Du machst uns zum Hohn unseren Nachbarn, zu Spott und Schimpf denen, die rings um uns wohnen.
Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
Du machst uns zum Sprichwort unter den Völkern, die Nationen schütteln den Kopf.
My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
Den ganzen Tag steht meine Schande vor mir, Schmach hat mein Gesicht bedeckt
For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
wegen der Stimme des lästernden Spötters, wegen der rachgierigen Blicke des Feindes.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
All das ist über uns gekommen und doch hatten wir dich nicht vergessen und deinen Bund nicht verraten.
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
Unser Herz wich nicht zurück und unser Schritt hat deinen Pfad nicht verlassen.
Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
Doch du hast uns zerschlagen am Ort der Schakale und uns mit Finsternis bedeckt.
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
Hätten wir den Namen unseres Gottes vergessen und zu einem fremden Gott unsere Hände erhoben,
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
würde Gott das nicht erforschen? Denn er kennt das im Herzen Verborgene.
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Ja, um deinetwillen wurden wir den ganzen Tag getötet, wir galten als Schafe, zum Schlachten bestimmt.
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.
Wach auf! Warum schläfst du, Herr? Erwache, verstoß nicht für immer!
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
Warum verbirgst du dein Angesicht, vergisst unser Elend und unsre Bedrückung?
For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
