The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.

Ich werde dich zum Stammvater eines großen Volkes machen und dir viel Gutes tun; dein Name wird überall berühmt sein. Durch dich werden auch andere Menschen am Segen teilhaben.
I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.
Wer dir Gutes wünscht, den werde ich segnen. Wer dir aber Böses wünscht, den werde ich verfluchen! Alle Völker der Erde sollen durch dich gesegnet werden.«
I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
Abram gehorchte und machte sich auf den Weg. Er war 75 Jahre alt, als er Haran verließ.
So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
Mit ihm kamen seine Frau Sarai, sein Neffe Lot sowie alle Knechte und Mägde, die sie in Haran in den Dienst genommen hatten. Mit ihrem ganzen Besitz brachen sie in Richtung Kanaan auf. Als sie schließlich dort ankamen,

Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites.

Dann zog er weiter nach Süden zu dem Gebirge östlich von Bethel. Zwischen Bethel im Westen und Ai im Osten schlugen Abram und die Seinen ihre Zelte auf. Auch hier baute er einen Altar und betete zum HERRN.

Abram and Sarai in Egypt
At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner.

When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife. Let’s kill him; then we can have her!’

So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.”
Tatsächlich zog Sarai die Aufmerksamkeit der Ägypter auf sich.
And sure enough, when Abram arrived in Egypt, everyone noticed Sarai’s beauty.
Selbst die Beamten des Pharaos waren beeindruckt und lobten Sarais Schönheit vor ihm. Da ließ er Sarai in seinen Palast holen
When the palace officials saw her, they sang her praises to Pharaoh, their king, and Sarai was taken into his palace.

Then Pharaoh gave Abram many gifts because of her — sheep, goats, cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.
Aber der HERR bestrafte den Pharao und seine Familie mit Krankheiten, weil er sich an Abrams Frau Sarai vergriffen hatte.
But the LORD sent terrible plagues upon Pharaoh and his household because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
Da rief der Pharao Abram zu sich und stellte ihn zur Rede: »Was hast du mir da angetan? Warum hast du mir nicht gesagt, dass sie deine Frau ist?
So Pharaoh summoned Abram and accused him sharply. “What have you done to me?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?
Warum hast du behauptet, sie sei deine Schwester, so dass ich sie mir zur Frau nahm? Hier, nimm sie zurück! Macht, dass ihr wegkommt!«
Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ and allow me to take her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and get out of here!”
