Im 25. Jahr der Verbannung unseres Volkes, und zwar genau am 10. Tag des Neujahrsmonats, vierzehn Jahre nach der Zerstörung Jerusalems, wurde ich wieder vom HERRN ergriffen.
In einer Vision führte er mich in das Land Israel und setzte mich auf einem hohen Berg nieder. Auf seiner Südseite entdeckte ich etliche Bauten, die wie eine Stadt aussahen.

Der Herr brachte mich zum Eingangstor, und dort stand ein Mann, dessen Körper wie Bronze schimmerte. In der Hand hielt er eine Schnur aus Leinen und eine Messlatte.
He took me there, and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze. He had a line of flax and a measuring rod in his hand, and he stood in the gateway.
Er sagte zu mir: »Du Mensch, hör mir gut zu und sieh dir genau an, was ich dir zeigen werde. Achte auf alles, denn du bist hierhergebracht worden, damit ich es dir offenbare. Was du siehst, sollst du dem Volk Israel berichten!«
Ich sah eine Mauer, die rings um den Tempelbezirk führte. Der Mann maß die Mauer aus; sie war genau eine Messlatte dick und ebenso hoch. Die Messlatte hatte eine Länge von gut 3 Metern.
Dann stieg der Mann die Stufen zum Osttor hinauf und maß die vordere Schwelle des Tores aus; sie war etwas mehr als 3 Meter tief.

Innen hatte das Torgebäude auf beiden Seiten drei Kammern. Jede war gut 3 Meter lang und ebenso breit. Die Mauern zwischen den Kammern waren 2,5 Meter dick. Die hintere Torschwelle war — wie die vordere — etwas mehr als 3 Meter tief. Sie ging in eine Vorhalle über, die 4 Meter lang war. Die Mauerstücke rechts und links an ihrem Ausgang waren beide 1 Meter dick.

Als Nächstes maß der Mann den Abstand zwischen dem Osttor — durch das wir in den äußeren Vorhof gekommen waren — und dem höher gelegenen Tor des inneren Vorhofs. Sie lagen sich genau gegenüber. Der Abstand betrug 50 Meter. Danach gingen wir zur Nordseite der äußeren Tempelmauer.

An den beiden Außenwänden der Vorhalle, rechts und links vom Toreingang, waren ebenfalls je zwei Tische aufgestellt.

So standen auf jeder Seite des Tores vier Tische, auf denen geschlachtet wurde; insgesamt waren es acht.

Die vier Tische in der Vorhalle bestanden aus Quadersteinen. Sie waren 0,75 Meter lang, ebenso breit und 0,5 Meter hoch. Auf ihnen legte man alles bereit, was man brauchte, um die Tiere für die Brandopfer und alle übrigen Opfer zu schlachten.

Der Mann sagte zu mir: »Der Raum neben dem Nordtor ist für die Priester bestimmt, die den Tempeldienst versehen,

Als Nächstes maß der Mann den inneren Vorhof aus. Er hatte einen quadratischen Grundriss und war 50 Meter lang und ebenso breit. Vor dem Tempel stand der Altar.
