Now after this, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

des Sohnes Sallum, des Sohnes Zadoks, des Sohnes Ahitobs,
son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,
des Sohnes Amarjas, des Sohnes Asarjas, des Sohnes Merajoths,
son of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,
des Sohnes Serahjas, des Sohnes Usis, des Sohnes Bukkis,
son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,
des Sohnes Abisuas, des Sohnes Pinehas, des Sohnes Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, des obersten Priesters.
son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the chief priest —
Esra aber war ein geschickter Schriftgelehrter im Gesetz Mose’s, das der HERR, der Gott Israels, gegeben hatte. Und der König gab ihm alles, was er forderte, nach der Hand des HERRN, seines Gottes, über ihm.
this Ezra went up from Babylonia. He was a scribe skilled in the Law of Moses that the Lord, the God of Israel, had given, and the king granted him all that he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.
Und es zogen herauf etliche der Kinder Israel und der Priester und der Leviten, der Sänger, der Torhüter und der Tempelknechte gen Jerusalem, im siebenten Jahr Arthahsasthas, des Königs.
And there went up also to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king, some of the people of Israel, and some of the priests and Levites, the singers and gatekeepers, and the temple servants.
Und er kam gen Jerusalem im fünften Monat, nämlich des siebenten Jahres des Königs.
Denn am ersten Tage des ersten Monats ward er Rats, heraufzuziehen von Babel, und am ersten Tage des fünften Monats kam er gen Jerusalem nach der guten Hand Gottes über ihm.
For on the first day of the first month he began to go up from Babylonia, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was on him.
Denn Esra schickte sein Herz, zu suchen das Gesetz des HERRN und zu tun, und zu lehren in Israel Gebote und Rechte.
For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.
Und dies ist der Inhalt des Briefes, den der König Arthahsastha gab Esra, dem Priester, dem Schriftgelehrten, der ein Lehrer war in den Worten des HERRN und seiner Gebote über Israel:
This is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a man learned in matters of the commandments of the Lord and his statutes for Israel:
Arthahsastha, König aller Könige, Esra, dem Priester und Schriftgelehrten im Gesetz des Gottes des Himmels, Friede und Gruß!
Von mir ist befohlen, daß alle, die da willig sind in meinem Reich, des Volks Israel und der Priester und Leviten, gen Jerusalem zu ziehen, daß die mit dir ziehen,
I make a decree that anyone of the people of Israel or their priests or Levites in my kingdom, who freely offers to go to Jerusalem, may go with you.
dieweil du vom König und seinen sieben Ratsherren gesandt bist, zu besichtigen Juda und Jerusalem nach dem Gesetz Gottes, das unter deiner Hand ist,
For you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to make inquiries about Judah and Jerusalem according to the Law of your God, which is in your hand,
und hinzubringen Silber und Gold, das der König und seine Ratsherren freiwillig geben dem Gott Israels, des Wohnung zu Jerusalem ist,
and also to carry the silver and gold that the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,
und allerlei Silber und Gold, das du finden kannst in der ganzen Landschaft Babel, mit dem, was das Volk und die Priester freiwillig geben zum Hause ihres Gottes zu Jerusalem.
with all the silver and gold that you shall find in the whole province of Babylonia, and with the freewill offerings of the people and the priests, vowed willingly for the house of their God that is in Jerusalem.
Alles das nimm und kaufe mit Fleiß von dem Gelde Farren, Widder, Lämmer und die Speisopfer und Trankopfer dazu, daß man opfere auf dem Altar beim Hause eures Gottes zu Jerusalem.
With this money, then, you shall with all diligence buy bulls, rams, and lambs, with their grain offerings and their drink offerings, and you shall offer them on the altar of the house of your God that is in Jerusalem.
Dazu was dir und deinen Brüdern mit dem übrigen Gelde zu tun gefällt, das tut nach dem Willen eures Gottes.
Whatever seems good to you and your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and gold, you may do, according to the will of your God.
Und die Gefäße, die dir gegeben sind zum Amt im Hause deines Gottes, überantworte vor Gott zu Jerusalem.
The vessels that have been given you for the service of the house of your God, you shall deliver before the God of Jerusalem.
Auch was mehr not sein wird zum Hause deines Gottes, das dir vorfällt auszugeben, das laß geben aus der Kammer des Königs.
And whatever else is required for the house of your God, which it falls to you to provide, you may provide it out of the king’s treasury.
Ich, König Arthahsastha, habe dies befohlen den Schatzmeistern jenseit des Wassers, daß, was Esra von euch fordern wird, der Priester und Schriftgelehrte im Gesetz des Gottes des Himmels, daß ihr das fleißig tut,
“And I, Artaxerxes the king, make a decree to all the treasurers in the province Beyond the River: Whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the Law of the God of heaven, requires of you, let it be done with all diligence,
bis auf 100 Zentner Silber und auf 100 Kor Weizen und auf 100 Bath Wein und auf 100 Bath Öl und Salz ohne Maß.
Alles, was gehört zum Gesetz des Gottes des Himmels, daß man dasselbe fleißig tue zum Hause des Gottes des Himmels, daß nicht ein Zorn komme über das Königreich des Königs und seiner Kinder.
Whatever is decreed by the God of heaven, let it be done in full for the house of the God of heaven, lest his wrath be against the realm of the king and his sons.
Und euch sei kund, daß ihr nicht Macht habt, Zins, Zoll und jährliche Rente zu legen auf irgend einen Priester, Leviten, Sänger, Torhüter, Tempelknecht und Diener im Hause dieses Gottes.
We also notify you that it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll on anyone of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the doorkeepers, the temple servants, or other servants of this house of God.
Du aber, Esra, nach der Weisheit deines Gottes, die unter deiner Hand ist, setze Richter und Pfleger, die alles Volk richten, das jenseit des Wassers ist, alle, die das Gesetz deines Gottes wissen; und welche es nicht wissen, die lehret es.
“And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God that is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may judge all the people in the province Beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God. And those who do not know them, you shall teach.
Und ein jeglicher, der nicht mit Fleiß tun wird das Gesetz deines Gottes und das Gesetz des Königs, der soll sein Urteil um der Tat willen haben, es sei zum Tod oder in die Acht oder zur Buße am Gut oder ins Gefängnis.
Whoever will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be strictly executed on him, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of his goods or for imprisonment.”
Gelobet sei der HERR, unsrer Väter Gott, der solches hat dem König eingegeben, daß er das Haus des HERRN zu Jerusalem ziere,
Blessed be the Lord, the God of our fathers, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem,
und hat zu mir Barmherzigkeit geneigt vor dem König und seinen Ratsherren und allen Gewaltigen des Königs! Und ich ward getrost nach der Hand des HERRN, meines Gottes, über mir und versammelte Häupter aus Israel, daß sie mit mir hinaufzögen.
and who extended to me his steadfast love before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty officers. I took courage, for the hand of the Lord my God was on me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.
