Aber im siebenten Monat kam Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, des Sohnes Elisamas, aus königlichem Stamm, einer von den Obersten des Königs, und zehn Männer mit ihm zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, gen Mizpa und sie aßen daselbst zu Mizpa miteinander.
Gedaliah Murdered
In the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, one of the chief officers of the king, came with ten men to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. As they ate bread together there at Mizpah,

Und Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, machte sich auf samt den zehn Männern, die bei ihm waren und schlugen Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, mit dem Schwert zu Tode, darum daß ihn der König zu Babel über das Land gesetzt hatte;
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men with him rose up and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor in the land.
dazu alle Juden, die bei Gedalja waren zu Mizpa, und die Chaldäer, die sie daselbst fanden, alle Kriegsleute, schlug Ismael.
Ishmael also struck down all the Judeans who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldean soldiers who happened to be there.
Des andern Tages, nachdem Gedalja erschlagen war und es noch niemand wußte,
On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before anyone knew of it,
kamen 80 Männer von Sichem, von Silo und von Samaria und hatten die Bärte abgeschoren und ihre Kleider zerrissen und sich zerritzt und trugen Speisopfer und Weihrauch mit sich, daß sie es brächten zum Hause des HERRN.
eighty men arrived from Shechem and Shiloh and Samaria, with their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and their bodies gashed, bringing grain offerings and incense to present at the temple of the Lord.
Und Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, ging heraus von Mizpa ihnen entgegen, ging daher und weinte. Als er nun an sie kam, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr sollt zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, kommen.
And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah came out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he came. As he met them, he said to them, “Come in to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.”
Da sie aber mitten in die Stadt kamen, ermordete sie Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, und die Männer, so bei ihm waren, und warf sie in den Brunnen.
When they came into the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men with him slaughtered them and cast them into a cistern.
Aber es waren zehn Männer darunter, die sprachen zu Ismael: Töte uns nicht; wir haben Vorrat im Acker liegen von Weizen, Gerste, Öl und Honig. Also ließ er ab und tötete sie nicht mit den andern.
But there were ten men among them who said to Ishmael, “Do not put us to death, for we have stores of wheat, barley, oil, and honey hidden in the fields.” So he refrained and did not put them to death with their companions.
Der Brunnen aber, darein Ismael die Leichname der Männer warf, welche er hatte erschlagen samt dem Gedalja, ist der, den der König Asa machen ließ wider Baesa, den König Israels; den füllte Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, mit den Erschlagenen.
Und was übriges Volks war zu Mizpa, auch die Königstöchter, führte Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, gefangen weg samt allem übrigen Volk zu Mizpa, über welche Nebusaradan, der Hauptmann, hatte gesetzt Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, und zog hin und wollte hinüber zu den Kindern Ammon.
Then Ishmael took captive all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah, the king’s daughters and all the people who were left at Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them captive and set out to cross over to the Ammonites.
Da aber Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, erfuhr und alle Hauptleute des Heeres, die bei ihm waren, all das Übel, das Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, begangen hatte,
But when Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
nahmen sie zu sich alle Männer und zogen hin, wider Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, zu streiten; und trafen ihn an dem großen Wasser bei Gibeon.
they took all their men and went to fight against Ishmael the son of Nethaniah. They came upon him at the great pool that is in Gibeon.
Da nun alles Volk, so bei Ismael war, sah den Johanan, den Sohn Kareahs, und alle die Hauptleute des Heeres, die bei ihm waren, wurden sie froh.
And when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him, they rejoiced.
Und das ganze Volk, das Ismael hatte von Mizpa weggeführt, wandte sich um und kehrte wiederum zu Johanan, dem Sohne Kareahs.
So all the people whom Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned around and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.
Aber Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, entrann dem Johanan mit acht Männern, und zog zu den Kindern Ammon.
But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
Und Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, samt allen Hauptleuten des Heeres, so bei ihm waren, nahmen all das übrige Volk, so sie wiedergebracht hatten von Ismael, dem Sohn Nethanjas, aus Mizpa zu sich (weil Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, erschlagen war), nämlich die Kriegsmänner, Weiber und Kinder und Kämmerer, so sie von Gibeon hatten wiedergebracht;
Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him took from Mizpah all the rest of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, after he had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam — soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs, whom Johanan brought back from Gibeon.
und zogen hin und kehrten ein zur Herberge Chimhams, die bei Bethlehem war, und wollten nach Ägypten ziehen vor den Chaldäern.
And they went and stayed at Geruth Chimham near Bethlehem, intending to go to Egypt
Denn sie fürchteten sich vor ihnen, weil Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, erschlagen hatte, den der König zu Babel über das Land gesetzt hatte.
because of the Chaldeans. For they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
