Josef ging also hin, berichtete dem Pharao und sagte: Mein Vater und meine Brüder sind mit ihren Schafen, Ziegen und Rindern und mit allem, was ihnen gehört, aus Kanaan gekommen. Siehe, sie sind bereits im Land Goschen.
Jacob’s Family Settles in Goshen
Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers and their flocks and their herds and all that they have, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.”
Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers and their flocks and their herds and all that they have, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.”
Aus dem Kreis seiner Brüder hatte er fünf Männer mitgebracht und stellte sie dem Pharao vor.
He took five men from among his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh.
Der Pharao fragte seine Brüder: Was ist eure Arbeit? Sie antworteten dem Pharao: Schafhirten sind deine Knechte; wir wie schon unsere Väter.
Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, “What is your occupation?” So they said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we and our fathers.”
Und sie sagten zum Pharao: Wir sind gekommen, um uns als Fremde im Land aufzuhalten. Es gibt ja keine Weide für die Schafe und Ziegen deiner Knechte, denn schwer lastet die Hungersnot auf dem Land Kanaan. Nun möchten sich deine Knechte im Land Goschen niederlassen.
They said to Pharaoh, “We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now, therefore, please let your servants live in the land of Goshen.”
Darauf sagte der Pharao zu Josef: Dein Vater und deine Brüder sind also zu dir gekommen.
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.
Das Land Ägypten steht dir offen. Im besten Teil des Landes lass deinen Vater und deine Brüder wohnen! Sie sollen sich im Land Goschen niederlassen. Wenn du aber unter ihnen tüchtige Leute kennst, dann setze sie als Aufseher über meine Herden ein!
“The land of Egypt is at your disposal; settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land, let them live in the land of Goshen; and if you know any capable men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.”
Darauf führte Josef seinen Vater Jakob hinein und stellte ihn dem Pharao vor. Jakob segnete den Pharao.
Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him to Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
Der Pharao redete Jakob an: Wie viele Lebensjahre zählst du?
Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many years have you lived?”
Jakob gab dem Pharao zur Antwort: Die Zahl der Jahre meiner Pilgerschaft beträgt hundertdreißig. Gering an Zahl und unglücklich waren meine Lebensjahre und sie reichen nicht heran an die Lebensjahre meiner Väter in den Tagen ihrer Pilgerschaft.
So Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my sojourning are one hundred and thirty; few and unpleasant have been the years of my life, nor have they attained the years that my fathers lived during the days of their sojourning.”
Jakob segnete den Pharao und ging von dessen Angesicht weg.
And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from his presence.
Josef siedelte seinen Vater und seine Brüder an und wies ihnen Grundbesitz im Land Ägypten zu, im besten Teil des Landes, im Land von Ramses, wie der Pharao verfügt hatte.
So Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had ordered.
Josef versorgte seinen Vater und seine Brüder und das ganze Haus seines Vaters mit Brot nach der Zahl der Familienmitglieder.
Joseph provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to their little ones.
Im ganzen Land gab es kein Brot, denn die Hungersnot war sehr drückend. Das Land Ägypten und das Land Kanaan waren vor Hunger erschöpft.
Now there was no food in all the land, because the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.
Josef hatte alles Geld, das im Land Ägypten und im Land Kanaan im Umlauf war, für das Getreide, das sie kauften, eingezogen und in den Palast des Pharao gebracht.
Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
So war das Geld im Land Ägypten und im Land Kanaan ausgegangen. Alle Ägypter kamen zu Josef und sagten: Gib uns Brot! Warum sollen wir vor deinen Augen umkommen? Das Geld ist nämlich zu Ende.
When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food, for why should we die in your presence? For our money is gone.”
Liefert euer Vieh ab, sagte Josef, dann gebe ich euch dafür Brot, wenn das Geld zu Ende ist.
Then Joseph said, “Give up your livestock, and I will give you food for your livestock, since your money is gone.”
So brachten sie ihr Vieh zu Josef und Josef gab ihnen Brot um den Preis der Pferde, ihrer Bestände an Schafen, Ziegen und Rindern und Eseln. Er ernährte sie in jenem Jahr gegen ihren ganzen Viehbestand mit Brot.
So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses and the flocks and the herds and the donkeys; and he fed them with food in exchange for all their livestock that year.
Das Jahr ging indes zu Ende und im nächsten Jahr kamen sie und sagten zu ihm: Wir können unserem Herrn nicht verhehlen, dass das Geld zu Ende und unser Viehbestand unserem Herrn zugefallen ist. Wie unser Herr sieht, haben wir nichts mehr als unsere Leiber und unser Ackerland.
When that year was ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is all spent, and the cattle are my lord’s. There is nothing left for my lord except our bodies and our lands.
Warum sollen wir vor deinen Augen umkommen, wir selbst und auch unser Ackerland? Kauf uns und unsere Äcker um Brot! Wir und unser Ackerland wollen dem Pharao dienstbar sein. Stell Saatgut zur Verfügung, so werden wir am Leben bleiben, wir müssen dann nicht sterben und das Ackerland braucht nicht zu verkommen.
“Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. So give us seed, that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate.”
Josef kaufte also das ganze Ackerland der Ägypter für den Pharao auf; denn jeder Ägypter verkaufte sein Feld, weil ihn der Hunger überwältigte. So fiel das Land an den Pharao.
Result of the Famine
So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for every Egyptian sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. Thus the land became Pharaoh’s.
Das Volk aber machte er ihm leibeigen von einem Ende Ägyptens bis zum andern.
As for the people, he removed them to the cities from one end of Egypt’s border to the other.
Nur das Ackerland der Priester kaufte er nicht auf, denn den Priestern stand ein festes Einkommen vom Pharao zu; sie verzehrten ihr festes Einkommen, das ihnen der Pharao gewährte. Darum brauchten sie ihr Ackerland nicht zu verkaufen.
Only the land of the priests he did not buy, for the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh, and they lived off the allotment which Pharaoh gave them. Therefore, they did not sell their land.
Nun sprach Josef zum Volk: Seht, heute habe ich euch und euer Ackerland für den Pharao gekauft. Hier habt ihr Saatgut; bestellt nun die Äcker!
Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have today bought you and your land for Pharaoh; now, here is seed for you, and you may sow the land.
Vom Ertrag liefert ihr dann ein Fünftel dem Pharao ab, vier Teile aber gehören euch als Saatgut für das Feld sowie als Nahrung für euch, für die Leute in euren Häusern und für eure Kinder.
“At the harvest you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four-fifths shall be your own for seed of the field and for your food and for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”
Da antworteten sie: Du hast uns am Leben erhalten. Wenn wir das Wohlwollen unseres Herrn finden, wollen wir gern dem Pharao als Knechte dienen.
So they said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.”
So machte es Josef zum Gesetz bis auf den heutigen Tag, dass das Ackerland Ägyptens zugunsten des Pharao mit einem Fünftel zu besteuern ist. Nur das Ackerland der Priester fiel nicht an den Pharao.
Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt valid to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; only the land of the priests did not become Pharaoh’s.
Israel ließ sich im Land Ägypten nieder, im Land Goschen. Sie wurden dort ansässig, waren fruchtbar und vermehrten sich sehr.
Now Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in Goshen, and they acquired property in it and were fruitful and became very numerous.
Jakob lebte noch siebzehn Jahre im Land Ägypten und die Tage Jakobs, seine Lebensjahre, betrugen hundertsiebenundvierzig Jahre.
Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; so the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years.
Als die Zeit kam, da Israel sterben sollte, rief er seinen Sohn Josef und sagte zu ihm: Wenn ich dein Wohlwollen gefunden habe, leg deine Hand unter meine Hüfte, dass du nach Treu und Glauben an mir handeln wirst: Begrab mich nicht in Ägypten!
When the time for Israel to die drew near, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Please, if I have found favor in your sight, place now your hand under my thigh and deal with me in kindness and faithfulness. Please do not bury me in Egypt,
Bin ich zu meinen Vätern entschlafen, dann bring mich fort aus Ägypten und begrab mich in der Grabstätte meiner Väter! Er antwortete: Ich will tun, wie du gesagt hast.
but when I lie down with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place.” And he said, “I will do as you have said.”
