The Fact of Christ’s Resurrection
Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,

Durch dieses Evangelium werdet ihr gerettet werden, wenn ihr festhaltet an dem Wort, das ich euch verkündet habe, es sei denn, ihr hättet den Glauben unüberlegt angenommen.
by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
Denn vor allem habe ich euch überliefert, was auch ich empfangen habe: Christus ist für unsere Sünden gestorben, gemäß der Schrift,
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
und ist begraben worden. Er ist am dritten Tag auferweckt worden, gemäß der Schrift,
and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Danach erschien er mehr als fünfhundert Brüdern zugleich; die meisten von ihnen sind noch am Leben, einige sind entschlafen.
After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
Danach erschien er dem Jakobus, dann allen Aposteln.
then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;
Zuletzt erschien er auch mir, gleichsam der Missgeburt.
and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.
Denn ich bin der Geringste von den Aposteln; ich bin nicht wert, Apostel genannt zu werden, weil ich die Kirche Gottes verfolgt habe.
For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
Doch durch Gottes Gnade bin ich, was ich bin, und sein gnädiges Handeln an mir ist nicht ohne Wirkung geblieben. Mehr als sie alle habe ich mich abgemüht — nicht ich, sondern die Gnade Gottes zusammen mit mir.
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
Ob nun ich verkünde oder die anderen: Das ist unsere Botschaft und das ist der Glaube, den ihr angenommen habt.
Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
Wenn aber verkündet wird, dass Christus von den Toten auferweckt worden ist, wie können dann einige von euch sagen: Eine Auferstehung der Toten gibt es nicht?
Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
Wenn es keine Auferstehung der Toten gibt, ist auch Christus nicht auferweckt worden.
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;
Ist aber Christus nicht auferweckt worden, dann ist unsere Verkündigung leer, leer auch euer Glaube.
and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
Wir werden dann auch als falsche Zeugen Gottes entlarvt, weil wir im Widerspruch zu Gott das Zeugnis abgelegt haben: Er hat Christus auferweckt. Er hat ihn eben nicht auferweckt, wenn Tote nicht auferweckt werden.
Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.
Denn wenn Tote nicht auferweckt werden, ist auch Christus nicht auferweckt worden.
For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;
Wenn aber Christus nicht auferweckt worden ist, dann ist euer Glaube nutzlos und ihr seid immer noch in euren Sünden;
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
und auch die in Christus Entschlafenen sind dann verloren.
Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
Wenn wir allein für dieses Leben unsere Hoffnung auf Christus gesetzt haben, sind wir erbärmlicher daran als alle anderen Menschen.
If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.
Nun aber ist Christus von den Toten auferweckt worden als der Erste der Entschlafenen.
The Order of Resurrection
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
Da nämlich durch einen Menschen der Tod gekommen ist, kommt durch einen Menschen auch die Auferstehung der Toten.
For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
Denn wie in Adam alle sterben, so werden in Christus alle lebendig gemacht werden.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
Es gibt aber eine bestimmte Reihenfolge: Erster ist Christus; dann folgen, wenn Christus kommt, alle, die zu ihm gehören.
But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,
Danach kommt das Ende, wenn er jede Macht, Gewalt und Kraft entmachtet hat und seine Herrschaft Gott, dem Vater, übergibt.
then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.
Denn er muss herrschen, bis Gott ihm alle Feinde unter seine Füße gelegt hat.
For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
Der letzte Feind, der entmachtet wird, ist der Tod.
The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
Denn: Alles hat er seinen Füßen unterworfen. Wenn es aber heißt, alles sei unterworfen, ist offenbar der ausgenommen, der ihm alles unterwirft.
For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.
Wenn ihm dann alles unterworfen ist, wird auch er, der Sohn, sich dem unterwerfen, der ihm alles unterworfen hat, damit Gott alles in allem sei.
When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.
Wie kämen sonst einige dazu, sich für die Toten taufen zu lassen? Wenn Tote gar nicht auferweckt werden, warum lässt man sich dann taufen für sie?
Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?
Warum setzen dann auch wir uns stündlich der Gefahr aus?
Why are we also in danger every hour?
Täglich sehe ich dem Tod ins Auge, so wahr ihr, Brüder und Schwestern, mein Ruhm seid, den ich in Christus Jesus, unserem Herrn, habe.
I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
Wenn ich in Ephesus nur nach Menschenart mit wilden Tieren gekämpft hätte, was würde es mir nützen? Wenn Tote nicht auferweckt werden, dann lasst uns essen und trinken; denn morgen sterben wir.
If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.
Lasst euch nicht irreführen! Schlechter Umgang verdirbt gute Sitten.
Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
Werdet nüchtern, wie es sich gehört, und sündigt nicht! Einige Leute wissen nichts von Gott; ich sage das, damit ihr euch schämt.
Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
Nun könnte einer fragen: Wie werden die Toten auferweckt, was für einen Leib werden sie haben?
But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?”
Du Tor! Auch das, was du säst, wird nicht lebendig, wenn es nicht stirbt.
You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies;
Und was du säst, ist noch nicht der Leib, der entstehen wird; es ist nur ein nacktes Samenkorn, zum Beispiel ein Weizenkorn oder ein anderes.
and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else.
Gott gibt ihm den Leib, den er vorgesehen hat, und zwar jedem Samen einen eigenen Leib.
But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own.
Nicht alles Fleisch ist dasselbe: Das Fleisch der Menschen ist anders als das des Viehs, das Fleisch der Vögel ist anders als das der Fische.
All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish.
Auch gibt es Himmelskörper und irdische Körper. Die Schönheit der Himmelskörper ist anders als die der irdischen Körper.
There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.
Der Glanz der Sonne ist anders als der Glanz des Mondes, anders als der Glanz der Sterne; denn auch die Gestirne unterscheiden sich durch ihren Glanz.
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
So ist es auch mit der Auferstehung der Toten. Was gesät wird, ist verweslich, was auferweckt wird, unverweslich.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body;
Was gesät wird, ist armselig, was auferweckt wird, herrlich. Was gesät wird, ist schwach, was auferweckt wird, ist stark.
it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
Gesät wird ein irdischer Leib, auferweckt ein überirdischer Leib. Wenn es einen irdischen Leib gibt, gibt es auch einen überirdischen.
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
So steht es auch in der Schrift: Adam, der erste Mensch, wurde ein irdisches Lebewesen. Der letzte Adam wurde lebendig machender Geist.
So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
Aber zuerst kommt nicht das Überirdische; zuerst kommt das Irdische, dann das Überirdische.
However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.
Der erste Mensch stammt von der Erde und ist Erde; der zweite Mensch stammt vom Himmel.
The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.
Wie der von der Erde irdisch war, so sind es auch seine Nachfahren. Und wie der vom Himmel himmlisch ist, so sind es auch seine Nachfahren.
As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.
Wie wir nach dem Bild des Irdischen gestaltet wurden, so werden wir auch nach dem Bild des Himmlischen gestaltet werden.
Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.
Damit will ich sagen, Brüder und Schwestern: Fleisch und Blut können das Reich Gottes nicht erben; das Verwesliche erbt nicht das Unverwesliche.
The Mystery of Resurrection
Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Seht, ich enthülle euch ein Geheimnis: Wir werden nicht alle entschlafen, aber wir werden alle verwandelt werden —
Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,
plötzlich, in einem Augenblick, beim letzten Posaunenschall. Die Posaune wird erschallen, die Toten werden als Unverwesliche auferweckt, wir aber werden verwandelt werden.
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Denn dieses Verwesliche muss sich mit Unverweslichkeit bekleiden und dieses Sterbliche mit Unsterblichkeit.
For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.
Wenn sich aber dieses Verwesliche mit Unverweslichkeit bekleidet und dieses Sterbliche mit Unsterblichkeit, dann erfüllt sich das Wort der Schrift: Verschlungen ist der Tod vom Sieg.
But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory.
Tod, wo ist dein Sieg? Tod, wo ist dein Stachel?
“O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?”
Der Stachel des Todes aber ist die Sünde, die Kraft der Sünde ist das Gesetz.
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
Gott aber sei Dank, der uns den Sieg geschenkt hat durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus.
but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Daher, meine geliebten Brüder und Schwestern, seid standhaft und unerschütterlich, seid stets voll Eifer im Werk des Herrn und denkt daran, dass im Herrn eure Mühe nicht vergeblich ist!
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
