Eliphaz Accuses and Exhorts Job
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
»Meinst du, dass ein Mensch für Gott von Nutzen ist? Wer weise und verständig ist, nützt doch nur sich selbst!
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Machst du Gott damit eine Freude, dass du dir nichts zuschulden kommen lässt? Bringt es ihm Gewinn, wenn du ein tadelloses Leben führst?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Nicht wegen deiner Frömmigkeit geht Gott mit dir ins Gericht und zieht dich jetzt zur Rechenschaft,
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
nein, wegen deiner großen Bosheit! Lang ist die Liste deiner Sünden!
Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Wenn dir dein Nachbar etwas schuldete, dann hast du ohne Grund sein einziges Gewand als Pfand genommen.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Dem Durstigen hast du kein Wasser gegeben und dem Hungrigen das Brot verweigert.
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
Dabei bist du mächtig und angesehen; dir gehört das Land, in dem du wohnst!
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
Witwen hast du mit leeren Händen weggeschickt und den Waisenkindern ihre Bitten abgeschlagen.
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
Deshalb umgeben dich jetzt tödliche Gefahren und packt dich Furcht und Entsetzen.
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
Deshalb ist es jetzt so dunkel um dich her, dass du keine Handbreit sehen kannst, deshalb überrollt dich jetzt die große Flut!
Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
Schau dir die Sterne an dort oben — Gott ist noch viel erhabener, er überragt den Himmel!
Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
Darum sagst du auch: ›Was weiß er schon? Kann uns Gott gerecht beurteilen, wenn dunkle Wolken ihm den Blick versperren? In tiefer Finsternis verbirgt er sich, er sieht uns nicht; fern am Rand des Weltalls wohnt er!‹
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
Willst auch du die falschen Wege gehen, die in alter Zeit gewissenlose Menschen schon gegangen sind?
Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
Vorzeitig wurden sie aus dem Leben gerissen, ihre Häuser wurden fortgespült von einer Flut.
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
Sie wagten es, zu Gott zu sagen: ›Geh mir aus dem Weg!‹ und: ›Was kann uns der Allmächtige schon tun?‹
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
Dabei war er es doch, der in seiner Güte sie zu Wohlstand brachte! — Doch ich will mich hüten, so wie sie zu reden! —
Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Gute und gerechte Menschen werden lachen und sich freuen, wenn sie ihren Untergang sehen!
The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
›Jetzt ist unser Feind vernichtet‹, jubeln sie, ›und sein Besitz wurde ein Raub der Flammen!‹
Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
Hiob, versöhn dich wieder mit Gott, schließ mit ihm Frieden, dann wird er dir sehr viel Gutes tun!
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Gib wieder acht auf das, was er dir sagt, und nimm dir seine Worte zu Herzen!
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Wenn du zu Gott, dem Allmächtigen, umkehrst, wird er dich aufrichten. Halte alles Unrecht von deinem Haus fern!
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
Wirf dein kostbares Gold weg, versenk es irgendwo im Fluss!
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Dann ist Gott selbst dein kostbarer Schatz, dann bedeutet er dir mehr als alles Gold und Silber.
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
Er wird die Quelle deiner Freude sein, und du kannst wieder zu ihm aufschauen.
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Wenn du zu ihm betest, wird er dich erhören; und du wirst erfüllen, was du ihm versprochen hast.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
Deine Pläne werden gelingen; hell strahlt das Licht über allen deinen Wegen!
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
Wenn andere am Boden liegen und du betest: ›Herr, stärke sie wieder!‹, dann wird Gott die Niedergeschlagenen aufrichten.
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
