Ohne Vorwarnung verrückt er Berge, und wenn er zornig wird, zerstört er sie.

Unbemerkt zieht er an mir vorüber; er geht vorbei, er streift mich, und ich nehme es gar nicht wahr!

Wollte ich meine Kraft mit ihm messen — er ist der Stärkere! Aber es geht ums Recht! Warum lädt er mich nicht vor, damit ich mich verteidigen kann?
Selbst wenn ich recht hätte, würde Gott mich zum Geständnis zwingen; ich müsste mich vor ihm für schuldig erklären, auch wenn ich schuldlos wäre.
Ja, ich bin unschuldig! Aber es ist mir völlig gleichgültig, so sehr hasse ich mein Leben!

Fällt ein Land Tyrannen in die Hände und werden alle Richter blind für das Recht, so hat Gott das getan! Wenn nicht er — wer sonst?

Meine Jahre sind vorbeigeeilt, schneller als ein Läufer, verschwunden sind sie ohne eine Spur von Glück.
