Da sie nun zogen gen Morgen, fanden sie ein ebenes Land im Lande Sinear, und wohnten daselbst.
Und sie sprachen untereinander: Wohlauf, laßt uns Ziegel streichen und brennen! und nahmen Ziegel zu Stein und Erdharz zu Kalk
They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)
und sprachen: Wohlauf, laßt uns eine Stadt und einen Turm bauen, des Spitze bis an den Himmel reiche, daß wir uns einen Namen machen! denn wir werden sonst zerstreut in alle Länder.
Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”
Da fuhr der HERR hernieder, daß er sähe die Stadt und den Turm, die die Menschenkinder bauten.
But the LORD came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.
Und der HERR sprach: Siehe, es ist einerlei Volk und einerlei Sprache unter ihnen allen, und haben das angefangen zu tun; sie werden nicht ablassen von allem, was sie sich vorgenommen haben zu tun.
“Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!
Wohlauf, lasset uns herniederfahren und ihre Sprache daselbst verwirren, daß keiner des andern Sprache verstehe!
Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.”
Also zerstreute sie der HERR von dort in alle Länder, daß sie mußten aufhören die Stadt zu bauen.
In that way, the LORD scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city.
Daher heißt ihr Name Babel, daß der HERR daselbst verwirrt hatte aller Länder Sprache und sie zerstreut von dort in alle Länder.
Dies sind die Geschlechter Sems: Sem war 100 Jahre alt und zeugte Arphachsad, zwei Jahre nach der Sintflut,
und lebte darnach 500 Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
Arphachsad war 35 Jahre alt und zeugte Salah

und lebte darnach 403 Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
Salah war 30 Jahre alt und zeugte Eber
When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
und lebte darnach 403 Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
After the birth of Eber, Shelah lived another 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
Eber war 34 Jahre alt und zeugte Peleg
When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
und lebte darnach 430 Jahre und zeugte Söhne und Töchter.

Peleg war 30 Jahre alt und zeugte Regu
When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.

After the birth of Reu, Peleg lived another 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
Regu war 32 Jahre alt und zeugte Serug
When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.

Tharah war 70 Jahre alt und zeugte Abram, Nahor und Haran.
After Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Dies sind die Geschlechter Tharahs: Tharah zeugte Abram, Nahor und Haran. Aber Haran zeugte Lot.
The Family of Terah
This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot.
Haran aber starb vor seinem Vater Tharah in seinem Vaterlande zu Ur in Chaldäa.
But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.
Da nahmen Abram und Nahor Weiber. Abrams Weib hieß Sarai, und Nahors Weib Milka, Harans Tochter, der ein Vater war der Milka und der Jiska.
Meanwhile, Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah. (Milcah and her sister Iscah were daughters of Nahor’s brother Haran.)
Aber Sarai war unfruchtbar und hatte kein Kind.
But Sarai was unable to become pregnant and had no children.
Da nahm Tharah seinen Sohn Abram und Lot, seines Sohnes Harans Sohn, und seine Schwiegertochter Sarai, seines Sohnes Abrams Weib, und führte sie aus Ur in Chaldäa, daß er ins Land Kanaan zöge; und sie kamen gen Haran und wohnten daselbst.
One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.
