Elihu Reminds Job of God's Justice
Elihu spake moreover, and said,
Elihu spake moreover, and said,
Achtest du das für Recht, daß du sprichst: »Ich bin gerechter denn Gott?
Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?
Denn du sprichst: »Wer gilt bei dir etwas? Was hilft es, ob ich nicht sündige?
For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
Ich will dir antworten ein Wort und deinen Freunden mit dir.
I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
Schaue gen Himmel und siehe; und schau an die Wolken, daß sie dir zu hoch sind.
Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.
Sündigst du, was kannst du ihm Schaden? Und ob deiner Missetaten viel ist, was kannst du ihm tun?
If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
Und ob du gerecht seist, was kannst du ihm geben, oder was wird er von deinen Händen nehmen?
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
Einem Menschen, wie du bist, mag wohl etwas tun deine Bosheit, und einem Menschenkind deine Gerechtigkeit.
Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
Man schreit, daß viel Gewalt geschieht, und ruft über den Arm der Großen;
By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
aber man fragt nicht: »Wo ist Gott, mein Schöpfer, der Lobgesänge gibt in der Nacht,
But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
der uns klüger macht denn das Vieh auf Erden und weiser denn die Vögel unter dem Himmel?
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
Da schreien sie über den Hochmut der Bösen, und er wird sie nicht erhören.
There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
Denn Gott wird das Eitle nicht erhören, und der Allmächtige wird es nicht ansehen.
Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
Nun sprichst du gar, du werdest ihn nicht sehen. Aber es ist ein Gericht vor ihm, harre sein nur!
Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.
ob auch sein Zorn so bald nicht heimsucht und er sich’s nicht annimmt, daß so viel Laster da sind.
But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:
