Hezekiah’s Illness
In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

Da wandte Hiskia sein Angesicht zur Wand und betete zum HERRN
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,
und sprach: Gedenke doch, HERR, wie ich vor dir gewandelt habe in der Wahrheit, mit vollkommenem Herzen, und habe getan, was dir gefallen hat. Und Hiskia weinte sehr.
“Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Gehe hin und sage Hiskia: So spricht der HERR, der Gott deines Vaters David: Ich habe dein Gebet gehört und deine Tränen gesehen. Siehe, ich will deinen Tagen noch 15 Jahre zulegen
“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.
und will dich samt dieser Stadt erretten von der Hand des Königs von Assyrien; denn ich will diese Stadt wohl verteidigen.
And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.
Und habe dir das zum Zeichen von dem HERRN, daß der HERR solches tun wird, was er geredet hat:
“ ‘This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised:
Siehe ich will den Schatten am Sonnenzeiger des Ahas zehn Stufen zurückziehen, über welche er gelaufen ist. Und die Sonne lief zehn Stufen zurück am Zeiger, über welche sie gelaufen war.
I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’ ” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down.
Dies ist die Schrift Hiskias, des Königs in Juda, da er krank gewesen und von der Krankheit geheilt worden war.

Ich sprach: Nun muß ich zu der Hölle Pforten fahren in der Mitte meines Lebens, da ich gedachte, noch länger zu leben.

Ich sprach: Nun werde ich nicht mehr sehen den HERRN, ja, den HERRN im Lande der Lebendigen; nun werde ich nicht mehr schauen die Menschen bei denen, die ihre Zeit leben.

no longer will I look on my fellow man,
or be with those who now dwell in this world.

Meine Zeit ist dahin und von mir weggetan wie eines Hirten Hütte. Ich reiße mein Leben ab wie ein Weber; er bricht mich ab wie einen dünnen Faden; du machst’s mit mir ein Ende den Tag vor Abend.

Ich dachte: Möchte ich bis morgen Leben! Aber er zerbrach mir alle meine Gebeine wie ein Löwe; denn du machst es mit mir aus den Tag vor Abend.

Ich winselte wie ein Kranich und wie eine Schwalbe und girrte wie eine Taube; meine Augen wollten mir brechen: HERR, ich leide Not; lindere mir’s!

I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!”

Was soll ich reden? Er hat mir’s zugesagt und hat’s auch getan! Ich werde in Demut wandeln all meine Lebtage nach solcher Betrübnis meiner Seele.
But what can I say?

HERR, davon lebt man, und das Leben meines Geistes steht ganz darin; denn du ließest mich wieder stark werden und machtest mich leben.
Lord, by such things people live;
and my spirit finds life in them too.
You restored me to health

Siehe, um Trost war mir sehr bange. Du aber hast dich meiner Seele herzlich angenommen, daß sie nicht verdürbe; denn du wirfst alle meine Sünden hinter dich zurück.

sondern allein, die da leben, loben dich, wie ich jetzt tue. Der Vater wird den Kindern deine Wahrheit kundtun.

HERR, hilf mir, so wollen wir meine Lieder singen, solange wir leben, im Hause des HERRN!

Und Jesaja hieß, man sollte ein Pflaster von Feigen nehmen und auf seine Drüse legen, daß er gesund würde.
Isaiah had said, “Prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.”
