Ein Weisheitslied Asafs. Lausche, mein Volk, meiner Weisung! Neigt euer Ohr den Worten meines Munds!
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Ich öffne meinen Mund zu einem Spruch; ich will Geheimnisse der Vorzeit verkünden.
Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
Was wir hörten und erfuhren, was uns die Väter erzählten,
We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
das wollen wir ihren Kindern nicht verbergen, sondern dem kommenden Geschlecht erzählen: die ruhmreichen Taten des HERRN und seine Stärke, die Wunder, die er getan hat.
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
Er richtete ein Zeugnis auf in Jakob, Weisung gab er in Israel und gebot unseren Vätern, ihre Kinder das alles zu lehren,
That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
damit das kommende Geschlecht davon erfahre, die Kinder, die noch geboren werden; sie sollen aufstehen und es ihren Kindern erzählen,
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
damit sie ihr Vertrauen auf Gott setzen, die Taten Gottes nicht vergessen und seine Gebote bewahren
And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
und nicht werden wie ihre Väter, ein Geschlecht voll Trotz und Empörung, ein Geschlecht, dessen Herz nicht fest war und dessen Geist nicht treu zu Gott hielt.
The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
Die Söhne Efraims, Kämpfer mit Pfeil und Bogen, wandten den Rücken am Tag der Schlacht;
They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
Gottes Bund hielten sie nicht, sie weigerten sich, seiner Weisung zu folgen.
And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
Sie vergaßen seine Taten, die Wunder, die er sie sehen ließ.
Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
Vor den Augen ihrer Väter vollbrachte er Wunder im Land Ägypten, im Gefilde von Zoan.
He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
Er spaltete das Meer und führte sie hindurch, er ließ das Wasser feststehen wie einen Damm.
In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
Er führte sie bei Tag mit der Wolke und die ganze Nacht mit leuchtendem Feuer.
He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
Er spaltete Felsen in der Wüste und gab dem Volk reichlich zu trinken, wie mit Wassern der Urflut.
He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
Er ließ Bäche aus dem Gestein entspringen, ließ Wasser fließen gleich Strömen.
And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
Doch sie sündigten weiter gegen ihn, sie trotzten in der Wüste dem Höchsten.
And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
In ihrem Herzen versuchten sie Gott: Sie forderten Nahrung für ihr Verlangen.
Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
Sie redeten gegen Gott; sie fragten: Kann uns denn Gott den Tisch decken in der Wüste?
Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
Zwar hat er an den Felsen geschlagen, sodass Wasser floss und Bäche strömten. Kann er auch Brot geben und Fleisch bereiten seinem Volk?
Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
Das hörte der HERR und ergrimmte; Feuer flammte auf gegen Jakob, Zorn erhob sich gegen Israel,
Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
weil sie Gott nicht glaubten und nicht auf seine Hilfe vertrauten.
Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
Da gebot er den Wolken droben und öffnete die Tore des Himmels.
And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
Er ließ Manna auf sie regnen als Speise, er gab ihnen Korn vom Himmel.
Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
Jeder aß vom Brot der Starken; er sandte Nahrung, sie zu sättigen.
He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
Er ließ den Ostwind losbrechen am Himmel, führte in seiner Macht den Südwind herbei.
He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
Er ließ Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub, gefiederte Vögel wie Sand am Meer.
And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
Er ließ sie mitten ins Lager fallen, rings um ihre Zelte.
So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
Sie aßen und wurden reichlich gesättigt; er hatte ihnen gebracht, was sie begehrten.
They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
Noch aber hatten sie ihre Gier nicht gestillt, noch war die Speise in ihrem Mund,
The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
da erhob sich gegen sie Gottes Zorn; unter ihren Kräftigen schlug er zu und streckte die jungen Männer Israels nieder.
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
Doch sie sündigten trotz allem weiter und glaubten nicht seinen Wundern.
Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
Darum ließ er ihre Tage schwinden wie einen Hauch und ihre Jahre in jähem Schrecken.
When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after God.
Wenn er dreinschlug, fragten sie nach Gott, kehrten um und suchten ihn.
And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
Sie dachten daran, dass Gott ihr Fels ist und Gott, der Höchste, ihr Erlöser.
Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
Doch sie täuschten ihn mit ihrem Mund und belogen ihn mit ihrer Zunge.
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
Ihr Herz hielt nicht fest zu ihm, sie hielten seinem Bund nicht die Treue.
But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
Doch er ist barmherzig, vergab die Schuld und vernichtete nicht. Oftmals ließ er ab von seinem Zorn und unterdrückte seinen Groll.
For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
Denn er dachte daran, dass sie Fleisch sind, nur ein Hauch, der vergeht und nicht wiederkehrt.
How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
Wie oft haben sie ihm in der Wüste getrotzt, ihn gekränkt in der Steppe!
Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
Immer wieder stellten sie ihn auf die Probe, sie reizten den Heiligen Israels.
They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
Sie dachten nicht mehr an seine Hand, an den Tag, als er sie vom Gegner befreite,
How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
als er in Ägypten seine Zeichen tat und seine Wunder im Gefilde von Zoan.
And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
Er verwandelte ihre Flüsse und Bäche in Blut; sie konnten daraus nicht mehr trinken.
He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Er schickte einen Schwarm von Fliegen gegen sie, der fraß sie auf, ein Heer von Fröschen, das sie vertilgte.
He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
Ihre Ernte überließ er den Grillen und Heuschrecken den Ertrag ihrer Mühen.
He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
Ihre Reben zerschlug er mit Hagel, ihre Maulbeerbäume mit Körnern aus Eis.
He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
Ihr Vieh überließ er dem Hagel und ihre Herden den Seuchen.
He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
Er schickte gegen sie die Glut seines Zorns, Grimm und Wut und Bedrängnis, Boten des Unheils in Scharen.
He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
Er ließ seinem Zorn freien Lauf; er bewahrte sie nicht vor dem Tod und lieferte ihr Leben der Pest aus.
And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
Er schlug in Ägypten alle Erstgeburt, in den Zelten Hams die Erstlinge ihrer Manneskraft.
But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
Dann führte er sein Volk hinaus wie Schafe, leitete sie wie eine Herde durch die Wüste.
And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
Er führte sie sicher, sie mussten nichts fürchten, doch ihre Feinde bedeckte das Meer.
And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
Er brachte sie in sein heiliges Gebiet, zum Berg, den seine Rechte erworben hat.
He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
Er vertrieb die Nationen vor ihnen und verteilte ihr Land als Erbe und ließ in ihren Zelten die Stämme Israels wohnen.
Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
Doch sie versuchten ihn und trotzten Gott, dem Höchsten; sie hielten sich nicht an seine Zeugnisse.
But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
Wie ihre Väter fielen sie treulos von ihm ab, sie wandten sich ab wie ein Bogen, der versagt.
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Sie erbitterten ihn mit ihrem Kult auf den Höhen und reizten seine Eifersucht mit den Bildern ihrer Götter.
When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
Gott hörte es und er ergrimmte, ganz und gar verwarf er Israel.
So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
Er gab seine Wohnung auf in Schilo, das Zelt, das er aufgerichtet hatte unter den Menschen.
And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
Er gab seine Macht in Gefangenschaft, seine Zierde in die Hand des Feindes.
He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
Er lieferte sein Volk dem Schwert aus und war voll Grimm über sein Eigentum.
The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
Die jungen Männer fraß das Feuer; den jungen Mädchen sang man kein Brautlied.
Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
Die Priester wurden mit dem Schwert erschlagen; die Witwen konnten die Toten nicht beweinen.
Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
Da erwachte der Herr wie aus dem Schlaf, wie ein Held, der betäubt war vom Wein.
And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
Er schlug seine Feinde zurück und übergab sie ewiger Schande.
Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
Das Zelt Josefs verwarf er, dem Stamm Efraim entzog er die Erwählung.
But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
Doch den Stamm Juda erwählte er, den Berg Zion, den er liebt.
And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
Dort baute er sein hoch ragendes Heiligtum, so fest wie die Erde, die er für immer gegründet hat.
He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
Und er erwählte David, seinen Knecht; er holte ihn weg von den Hürden der Schafe,
From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
von den Muttertieren nahm er ihn fort, damit er Jakob weide, sein Volk, und Israel, sein Erbe.
