Judas Iskariot, einer der Zwölf, ging zu den Hohepriestern. Er wollte Jesus an sie ausliefern.

Als sie das hörten, freuten sie sich und versprachen, ihm Geld dafür zu geben. Von da an suchte er nach einer günstigen Gelegenheit, ihn auszuliefern.

Am ersten Tag des Festes der Ungesäuerten Brote, an dem man das Paschalamm zu schlachten pflegte, sagten die Jünger zu Jesus: Wo sollen wir das Paschamahl für dich vorbereiten?

Da schickte er zwei seiner Jünger voraus und sagte zu ihnen: Geht in die Stadt; dort wird euch ein Mensch begegnen, der einen Wasserkrug trägt. Folgt ihm,
And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
bis er in ein Haus hineingeht; dann sagt zu dem Herrn des Hauses: Der Meister lässt dich fragen: Wo ist der Raum, in dem ich mit meinen Jüngern das Paschalamm essen kann?
And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
Und der Hausherr wird euch einen großen Raum im Obergeschoss zeigen, der schon für das Festmahl hergerichtet und mit Polstern ausgestattet ist. Dort bereitet alles für uns vor!
And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
Die Jünger machten sich auf den Weg und kamen in die Stadt. Sie fanden alles so, wie er es ihnen gesagt hatte, und bereiteten das Paschamahl vor.
And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
Während sie nun zu Tisch waren und aßen, sagte Jesus: Amen, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich ausliefern, einer, der mit mir isst.
And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
Da wurden sie traurig und einer nach dem andern fragte ihn: Doch nicht etwa ich?
And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
Er sagte zu ihnen: Einer von euch Zwölf, der mit mir in dieselbe Schüssel eintunkt.
And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
Der Menschensohn muss zwar seinen Weg gehen, wie die Schrift über ihn sagt. Doch weh dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn ausgeliefert wird! Für ihn wäre es besser, wenn er nie geboren wäre.
The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
Während des Mahls nahm er das Brot und sprach den Lobpreis; dann brach er das Brot, reichte es ihnen und sagte: Nehmt, das ist mein Leib.
The Lord's Supper Instituted

Nach dem Lobgesang gingen sie zum Ölberg hinaus.

Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Ihr werdet alle Anstoß nehmen; denn in der Schrift steht: Ich werde den Hirten erschlagen, dann werden sich die Schafe zerstreuen.
Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial
And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

Petrus aber beteuerte: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste — ich werde dich nie verleugnen. Das Gleiche sagten auch alle anderen.
But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
Sie kamen zu einem Grundstück, das Getsemani heißt, und er sagte zu seinen Jüngern: Setzt euch hier, während ich bete!
Jesus Prays at Gethsemane
And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
Und er ging ein Stück weiter, warf sich auf die Erde nieder und betete, dass die Stunde, wenn möglich, an ihm vorübergehe.
And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
Er sprach: Abba, Vater, alles ist dir möglich. Nimm diesen Kelch von mir! Aber nicht, was ich will, sondern was du willst.
And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
Und er ging zurück und fand sie schlafend. Da sagte er zu Petrus: Simon, du schläfst? Konntest du nicht einmal eine Stunde wach bleiben?
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
Wacht und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung geratet! Der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach.
Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
Und er ging wieder weg und betete mit den gleichen Worten.
And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
Als er zurückkam, fand er sie wieder schlafend, denn die Augen waren ihnen zugefallen; und sie wussten nicht, was sie ihm antworten sollten.
And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
Und er kam zum dritten Mal und sagte zu ihnen: Schlaft ihr immer noch und ruht euch aus? Es ist genug. Die Stunde ist gekommen; siehe, jetzt wird der Menschensohn in die Hände der Sünder ausgeliefert.
And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Steht auf, wir wollen gehen! Siehe, der mich ausliefert, ist da.
Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
Noch während er redete, kam Judas, einer der Zwölf, mit einer Schar von Männern, die mit Schwertern und Knüppeln bewaffnet waren; sie waren von den Hohepriestern, den Schriftgelehrten und den Ältesten geschickt worden.
Jesus' Betrayal and Arrest
And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Der ihn auslieferte, hatte mit ihnen ein Zeichen vereinbart und gesagt: Der, den ich küssen werde, der ist es. Nehmt ihn fest, führt ihn sicher ab!
And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
Und als er kam, ging er sogleich auf Jesus zu und sagte: Rabbi! Und er küsste ihn.
And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
Da legten sie Hand an ihn und nahmen ihn fest.
And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
Einer von denen, die dabeistanden, zog das Schwert, schlug auf den Diener des Hohepriesters ein und hieb ihm das Ohr ab.
And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr mit Schwertern und Knüppeln ausgezogen, um mich festzunehmen.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
Tag für Tag war ich bei euch im Tempel und lehrte und ihr habt mich nicht verhaftet; aber so mussten die Schriften erfüllt werden.
I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
Ein junger Mann aber, der nur mit einem leinenen Tuch bekleidet war, wollte ihm nachfolgen. Da packten sie ihn;
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
er aber ließ das Tuch fallen und lief nackt davon.
And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
Darauf führten sie Jesus zum Hohepriester und es versammelten sich alle Hohepriester und Ältesten und Schriftgelehrten.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin
And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

Petrus aber war Jesus von Weitem bis in den Hof des Hohepriesters gefolgt; nun saß er dort bei den Dienern und wärmte sich am Feuer.
And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
Die Hohepriester und der ganze Hohe Rat bemühten sich um Zeugenaussagen gegen Jesus, um ihn zum Tod verurteilen zu können; sie fanden aber nichts.
And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
Viele machten zwar falsche Aussagen gegen ihn, aber die Aussagen stimmten nicht überein.
For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
Einige der falschen Zeugen, die gegen ihn auftraten, behaupteten:
And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
Wir haben ihn sagen hören: Ich werde diesen von Menschenhand gemachten Tempel niederreißen und in drei Tagen einen anderen aufbauen, der nicht von Menschenhand gemacht ist.
We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
Aber auch in diesem Fall stimmten die Aussagen nicht überein.
But neither so did their witness agree together.
Da stand der Hohepriester auf, trat in die Mitte und fragte Jesus: Willst du denn nichts sagen zu dem, was diese Leute gegen dich vorbringen?
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
Er aber schwieg und gab keine Antwort. Da wandte sich der Hohepriester nochmals an ihn und fragte: Bist du der Christus, der Sohn des Hochgelobten?
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
Jesus sagte: Ich bin es. Und ihr werdet den Menschensohn zur Rechten der Macht sitzen und mit den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen.
And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Da zerriss der Hohepriester sein Gewand und rief: Wozu brauchen wir noch Zeugen?
Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
Ihr habt die Gotteslästerung gehört. Was ist eure Meinung? Und sie fällten einstimmig das Urteil: Er ist des Todes schuldig.
Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
Und einige spuckten ihn an, verhüllten sein Gesicht, schlugen ihn und riefen: Zeig, dass du ein Prophet bist! Auch die Diener schlugen ihn ins Gesicht.
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Peter Denies Jesus
And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
Als die Magd ihn dort bemerkte, sagte sie zu denen, die dabeistanden, noch einmal: Der gehört zu ihnen.
And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
Er aber leugnete wieder. Wenig später sagten die Leute, die dort standen, vonNeuem zu Petrus: Du gehörst wirklich zu ihnen; du bist doch auch ein Galiläer.
And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
Da fing er an zu fluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht, von dem ihr redet.
But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
Gleich darauf krähte der Hahn zum zweiten Mal und Petrus erinnerte sich an das Wort, das Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn zweimal kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er begann zu weinen.
