Wenn du auf die Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, hörst, indem du alle seine Gebote, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, bewahrst und sie hältst, wird dich der HERR, dein Gott, über alle Völker der Erde erheben.

“Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.

Alle diese Segnungen werden über dich kommen und dich erreichen, wenn du auf die Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, hörst:
“All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the LORD your God:
Gesegnet bist du in der Stadt, gesegnet bist du auf dem Land.
“Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
Gesegnet ist die Frucht deines Leibes, die Frucht deines Ackers und die Frucht deines Viehs, der Wurf deiner Rinder und der Zuwachs an Lämmern und Zicklein.
“Blessed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground and the offspring of your beasts, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.
Gesegnet bist du, wenn du heimkehrst, gesegnet bist du, wenn du ausziehst.
“Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
Der HERR stößt die Feinde, die sich gegen dich erheben, nieder und liefert sie dir aus. Auf einer Straße ziehen sie gegen dich aus, auf sieben Straßen fliehen sie vor dir.
“The LORD shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways.
Der HERR befiehlt dem Segen, an deiner Seite zu sein: in deinen Speichern und bei allem, was deine Hände schaffen. Der HERR segnet dich in dem Land, das er, dein Gott, dir gibt.
“The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your barns and in all that you put your hand to, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.
Der HERR lässt dich, wie er es dir geschworen hat, bestehen als das Volk, das ihm heilig ist, wenn du die Gebote des HERRN, deines Gottes, bewahrst und auf seinen Wegen gehst.
“The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.
Dann sehen alle Völker der Erde, dass der Name des HERRN über dir ausgerufen ist, und fürchten sich vor dir.
“So all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will be afraid of you.
Der HERR schenkt dir Gutes im Überfluss bei der Frucht deines Leibes, bei der Frucht deines Viehs und bei der Frucht deines Ackers in dem Land, von dem du weißt: Der HERR hat deinen Vätern geschworen, es dir zu geben.
“The LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your beast and in the produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.
Der HERR öffnet dir den Himmel, seine Schatzkammer voll köstlichen Wassers: Er gibt deinem Land zur rechten Zeit Regen und segnet jede Arbeit deiner Hände. An viele Völker kannst du ausleihen und du brauchst nichts zu entleihen.
“The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
Der HERR macht dich zum Kopf und nicht zum Schwanz. Du kennst nur den Aufstieg, du kennst keinen Abstieg, wenn du auf die Gebote des HERRN, deines Gottes, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, hörst, sie bewahrst und sie hältst.
“The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I charge you today, to observe them carefully,
Von allen Worten, auf die ich euch heute verpflichte, sollst du weder rechts noch links abweichen. Du sollst nicht anderen Göttern nachfolgen und ihnen dienen.
and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
Wenn du nicht auf die Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, hörst, indem du nicht alle seine Gebote und Satzungen, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, bewahrst und sie nicht hältst, werden alle diese Verfluchungen über dich kommen und dich erreichen:
Consequences of Disobedience
“But it shall come about, if you do not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
Verflucht bist du in der Stadt, verflucht bist du auf dem Land.
“Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.
Verflucht ist dein Korb und dein Backtrog.
“Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
Verflucht ist die Frucht deines Leibes und die Frucht deines Ackers, der Wurf deiner Rinder und der Zuwachs an Lämmern und Zicklein.
“Cursed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.
Verflucht bist du, wenn du heimkehrst, verflucht bist du, wenn du ausziehst.
“Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.
Verfluchtsein, Verwirrtsein, Verwünschtsein lässt der HERR auf dich los, auf alles, was deine Hände schaffen und was du tust, bis du bald vernichtet und bis du ausgetilgt bist wegen deines Tuns, durch das du mich böswillig verlassen hast.
“The LORD will send upon you curses, confusion, and rebuke, in all you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, on account of the evil of your deeds, because you have forsaken Me.
Der HERR heftet die Pest an dich, bis er dich ausgemerzt hat aus dem Land, in das du hineinziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.
“The LORD will make the pestilence cling to you until He has consumed you from the land where you are entering to possess it.
Der HERR schlägt dich mit Schwindsucht, Fieber und Brand, mit Glut und Schwert, Versengung und Vergilbung. Sie verfolgen dich, bis du ausgetilgt bist.
“The LORD will smite you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew, and they will pursue you until you perish.
Der Himmel über deinem Kopf wird zu Erz, die Erde unter dir wird zu Eisen.
“The heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron.
Der HERR gibt deinem Lande Flugsand und Staub als Regen. Vom Himmel fällt er auf dich herab, bis du vernichtet bist.
“The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.
Der HERR stößt dich nieder und liefert dich deinen Feinden aus. Auf einer Straße ziehst du gegen sie aus, auf sieben Straßen fliehst du vor ihnen. Alle Könige der Erde erschauern vor dir.
“The LORD shall cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you will go out one way against them, but you will flee seven ways before them, and you will be an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Deine Leichen liegen da zum Fraß für alle Vögel des Himmels und für die Tiere der Erde und keiner verscheucht sie.
“Your carcasses will be food to all birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away.
Der HERR schlägt dich mit dem ägyptischen Geschwür, mit Beulen, Krätze und Grind und keiner kann dich heilen.
“The LORD will smite you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors and with the scab and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed.
Der HERR schlägt dich mit Wahnsinn, Blindheit und Irresein.
“The LORD will smite you with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart;
Am hellen Mittag tappst du im Dunkel wie ein Blinder. Deine Wege führen nicht zum Erfolg. Dein Leben lang wirst du ausgebeutet und ausgeraubt und niemand hilft dir.
and you will grope at noon, as the blind man gropes in darkness, and you will not prosper in your ways; but you shall only be oppressed and robbed continually, with none to save you.
Du verlobst dich mit einer Frau und ein anderer schläft mit ihr. Du baust ein Haus und wohnst nicht darin. Du legst einen Weinberg an und hältst nicht einmal die erste Lese.
“You shall betroth a wife, but another man will violate her; you shall build a house, but you will not live in it; you shall plant a vineyard, but you will not use its fruit.
Dein Ochse wird vor deinen Augen geschlachtet und du bekommst nicht einmal davon zu essen. Dein Esel wird dir weggerissen und kehrt nicht zurück. Deine Schafe und Ziegen werden deinen Feinden ausgeliefert und niemand kommt dir zu Hilfe.
“Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat of it; your donkey shall be torn away from you, and will not be restored to you; your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you will have none to save you.
Deine Söhne und Töchter werden einem anderen Volk ausgeliefert, du siehst dir den ganzen Tag nach ihnen die Augen aus und zwingst sie doch nicht herbei.
“Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, while your eyes look on and yearn for them continually; but there will be nothing you can do.
Den Ertrag deines Ackers und all deinen Gewinn verzehrt ein Volk, das du früher nicht einmal gekannt hast, und du wirst dein Leben lang nur ausgebeutet und misshandelt.
“A people whom you do not know shall eat up the produce of your ground and all your labors, and you will never be anything but oppressed and crushed continually.
Wahnsinn befällt dich bei dem Anblick, der sich deinen Augen bietet.
“You shall be driven mad by the sight of what you see.
Der HERR schlägt dich mit bösen Geschwüren am Knie und am Schenkel und keiner kann dich heilen. Von der Sohle bis zum Scheitel bist du krank.
“The LORD will strike you on the knees and legs with sore boils, from which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
Der HERR bringt dich und den König, den du über dich eingesetzt hast, zu einem Volk, das du und deine Väter früher nicht einmal gekannt haben, und dort musst du anderen Göttern dienen, Göttern aus Holz und Stein.
“The LORD will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone.
Alle Völker, zu denen der HERR dich führt, wenden sich entsetzt von dir ab, sagen Spottverse über dich auf und stimmen Hohngelächter an.
“You shall become a horror, a proverb, and a taunt among all the people where the LORD drives you.
Viel Saatgut trägst du aufs Feld, aber du erntest wenig. Das andere hat die Heuschrecke gefressen.
“You shall bring out much seed to the field but you will gather in little, for the locust will consume it.
Weinberge legst du an und pflegst sie, aber du trinkst keinen Wein und bringst keinen in den Keller. Der Wurm hat ihn weggefressen.
“You shall plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worm will devour them.
Ölbäume wachsen überall in deinem Land, aber du hast kein Öl, um dich zu salben. Dein Ölbaum hat die Oliven abgeworfen.
“You shall have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off.
Söhne und Töchter hast du gezeugt, aber sie sind nicht bei dir. Sie sind als Gefangene weggezogen.
“You shall have sons and daughters but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.
Alle deine Bäume und Feldfrüchte nimmt das Ungeziefer in Besitz.
“The cricket shall possess all your trees and the produce of your ground.
Der Fremde, der in deiner Mitte wohnt, steigt immer höher nach oben, hoch über dich hinaus, und du steigst immer tiefer hinab.
“The alien who is among you shall rise above you higher and higher, but you will go down lower and lower.
Er leiht dir aus und du kannst ihm nichts ausleihen. Er wird zum Kopf und du wirst zum Schwanz.
“He shall lend to you, but you will not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you will be the tail.
Alle diese Verfluchungen werden über dich kommen, dich verfolgen und dich erreichen, bis du vernichtet bist, weil du nicht auf die Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehört und seine Gebote und Satzungen nicht bewahrt hast, auf die er dich verpflichtet hat.
“So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you.
Für immer werden sie als Zeichen und Wunder an dir und an deinen Nachkommen haften.
“They shall become a sign and a wonder on you and your descendants forever.
Weil du dem HERRN, deinem Gott, nicht gedient hast aus Freude und Herzenslust, weil alles in Überfluss da war,
“Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things;
musst du deinen Feinden dienen, die der HERR gegen dich ausgesandt hat. Hunger und Durst wirst du leiden, nackt sein und nichts mehr haben. Er legt dir ein eisernes Joch auf den Nacken, bis er dich vernichtet hat.
therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in the lack of all things; and He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.
Der HERR trägt zum Kampf gegen dich ein Volk aus der Ferne herbei, von den Enden der Erde, das wie ein Adler herabstößt, ein Volk, dessen Sprache du noch nie gehört hast,
“The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you shall not understand,
ein Volk mit unbeweglichem Gesicht, das sich dem Greis nicht zuwendet und für das Kind kein Mitleid zeigt.
a nation of fierce countenance who will have no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young.
Es verzehrt die Frucht deines Viehs und die Frucht deines Ackers, bis du vernichtet bist. Es lässt dir nichts übrig vom Korn, vom Wein und vom Öl, vom Wurf deiner Rinder und dem Zuwachs an Lämmern und Zicklein, bis es dich ausgetilgt hat.
“Moreover, it shall eat the offspring of your herd and the produce of your ground until you are destroyed, who also leaves you no grain, new wine, or oil, nor the increase of your herd or the young of your flock until they have caused you to perish.
Es belagert dich in allen deinen Städten, bis die Mauern fallen, die hohen, festgefügten Mauern, auf die du dich in deinem ganzen Land verlässt. Es belagert dich in allen deinen Städten in dem ganzen Land, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir gegeben hat.
“It shall besiege you in all your towns until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout your land, and it shall besiege you in all your towns throughout your land which the LORD your God has given you.
In der Not der Belagerung, wenn dein Feind dich einschnürt, musst du die Frucht deines eigenen Leibes essen, das Fleisch deiner Söhne und Töchter, die dir der HERR, dein Gott, geschenkt hat.
“Then you shall eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you.
Der weichlichste und verwöhnteste Mann blickt dann bei dir missgünstig auf seinen Bruder, auf die Frau, mit der er schläft, und auf den Rest der Kinder, die er noch übrig gelassen hat,
“The man who is refined and very delicate among you shall be hostile toward his brother and toward the wife he cherishes and toward the rest of his children who remain,
und möchte niemandem etwas abgeben von dem Fleisch seiner Kinder, das er isst, weil ihm keine Nahrung mehr übrig geblieben ist in der Not der Belagerung, wenn dein Feind dich in allen deinen Städten einschnürt.
so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his children which he will eat, since he has nothing else left, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you in all your towns.
Die weichlichste und verwöhnteste Frau, die noch nie versucht hat, ihren Fuß auf die Erde zu setzen vor lauter Verwöhntheit und Verweichlichung, blickt missgünstig auf den Mann, mit dem sie schläft, auf ihren Sohn und ihre Tochter,
“The refined and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and refinement, shall be hostile toward the husband she cherishes and toward her son and daughter,
auf die Nachgeburt, die zwischen ihren Beinen hervorkommt, und auf die Kinder, die sie noch gebären wird; denn sie will sie heimlich essen, weil sie nichts mehr hat in der Not der Belagerung, wenn dein Feind dich in allen deinen Städten einschnürt.
and toward her afterbirth which issues from between her legs and toward her children whom she bears; for she will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you in your towns.
Wenn du nicht alle Worte dieser Weisung, die in dieser Urkunde aufgezeichnet sind, bewahrst und sie hältst, aus Furcht vor diesem herrlichen und Furcht erregenden Namen, vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott,
“If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the LORD your God,
wird der HERR die Schläge, die er dir und deinen Nachkommen versetzt, über alles Gewohnte hinaus steigern zu gewaltigen und hartnäckigen Schlägen, zu schlimmen und hartnäckigen Krankheiten.
then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses.
Er wird alle ägyptischen Seuchen, vor denen du Angst hast, wieder über dich bringen und sie werden an dir haften bleiben.
“He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you.
Auch alle Krankheiten und Schläge, die nicht in der Urkunde dieser Weisung aufgezeichnet sind, wird der HERR über dich bringen, bis du vernichtet bist.
“Also every sickness and every plague which, not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring on you until you are destroyed.
Dann werden nur noch wenige Leute von euch übrig bleiben, statt dass ihr zahlreich seid wie die Sterne am Himmel; denn du hast nicht auf die Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehört.
“Then you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not obey the LORD your God.
So wie der HERR seine Freude daran hatte, euch Gutes zu tun und euch zahlreich zu machen, so wird der HERR seine Freude daran haben, euch auszutilgen und euch zu vernichten. Ihr werdet aus dem Land, in das du nun hineinziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, herausgerissen werden.
“It shall come about that as the LORD delighted over you to prosper you, and multiply you, so the LORD will delight over you to make you perish and destroy you; and you will be torn from the land where you are entering to possess it.
Der HERR wird dich unter alle Völker verstreuen, vom einen Ende der Erde bis zum anderen Ende der Erde. Dort musst du anderen Göttern dienen, die du und deine Väter vorher nicht einmal gekannt haben, Göttern aus Holz und Stein.
“Moreover, the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known.
Unter diesen Nationen wirst du keine Ruhe finden. Es wird keine Stelle geben, wohin du deinen Fuß setzen kannst. Der HERR wird dir dort das Herz erzittern, die Augen verlöschen und den Atem stocken lassen.
“Among those nations you shall find no rest, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul.
Du wirst in Lebensgefahr schweben, bei Nacht und bei Tag erschrecken und nicht mehr an dein Leben glauben.
“So your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you will be in dread night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life.
Am Morgen wirst du sagen: Wenn es doch schon Abend wäre!, und am Abend: Wenn es doch schon Morgen wäre! — um dem Schrecken zu entfliehen, der dein Herz befällt, und dem Anblick, der sich deinen Augen bietet.
“In the morning you shall say, ‘Would that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Would that it were morning!’ because of the dread of your heart which you dread, and for the sight of your eyes which you will see.
Der HERR wird dich auf Schiffen nach Ägypten zurückbringen, auf einem Weg, von dem ich dir gesagt hatte: Du sollst ihn niemals wiedersehen. Dort werdet ihr euch deinen Feinden als Sklaven und Sklavinnen zum Verkauf anbieten, aber niemand wird euch kaufen.
“The LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I spoke to you, ‘You will never see it again!’ And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”
