The Man with a Measuring Rod

In einer Vision führte er mich in das Land Israel und setzte mich auf einem hohen Berg nieder. Auf seiner Südseite entdeckte ich etliche Bauten, die wie eine Stadt aussahen.

Der Herr brachte mich zum Eingangstor, und dort stand ein Mann, dessen Körper wie Bronze schimmerte. In der Hand hielt er eine Schnur aus Leinen und eine Messlatte.
And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
Er sagte zu mir: »Du Mensch, hör mir gut zu und sieh dir genau an, was ich dir zeigen werde. Achte auf alles, denn du bist hierhergebracht worden, damit ich es dir offenbare. Was du siehst, sollst du dem Volk Israel berichten!«
And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.
Ich sah eine Mauer, die rings um den Tempelbezirk führte. Der Mann maß die Mauer aus; sie war genau eine Messlatte dick und ebenso hoch. Die Messlatte hatte eine Länge von gut 3 Metern.
The East Gate
And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

Dann stieg der Mann die Stufen zum Osttor hinauf und maß die vordere Schwelle des Tores aus; sie war etwas mehr als 3 Meter tief.

Innen hatte das Torgebäude auf beiden Seiten drei Kammern. Jede war gut 3 Meter lang und ebenso breit. Die Mauern zwischen den Kammern waren 2,5 Meter dick. Die hintere Torschwelle war — wie die vordere — etwas mehr als 3 Meter tief. Sie ging in eine Vorhalle über, die 4 Meter lang war. Die Mauerstücke rechts und links an ihrem Ausgang waren beide 1 Meter dick.
And every little chamber was one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little chambers were five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate within was one reed.
Die sechs Kammern im Torgewölbe waren zum Torinneren hin durch eine Mauer von 0,5 Metern Höhe abgegrenzt. Als Nächstes maß der Mann die Breite der Toröffnung. Sie betrug 6,5 Meter und innerhalb der Torangeln 5 Meter.
And he measured the breadth of the entry of the gate, ten cubits; and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.
Dann maß er die volle Breite des gesamten Torgebäudes, vom Dachansatz einer Kammer bis zum Dachansatz der ihr gegenüberliegenden. Es waren 12,5 Meter.
He measured then the gate from the roof of one little chamber to the roof of another: the breadth was five and twenty cubits, door against door.
Die Vorhalle war 10 Meter breit. Durch sie gelangte man in den äußeren Tempelvorhof.
He made also posts of threescore cubits, even unto the post of the court round about the gate.
Das ganze Torgebäude war von der vordersten Toröffnung bis zur Ausgangstür der Vorhalle 25 Meter lang.
And from the face of the gate of the entrance unto the face of the porch of the inner gate were fifty cubits.
Die Kammern besaßen vergitterte Fenster an den Außen- und Innenwänden, und auch die Vorhalle hatte rundherum Fenster. Die Mauerstücke am Torausgang waren mit Palmwedeln verziert.
And there were narrow windows to the little chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the arches: and windows were round about inward: and upon each post were palm trees.
Dann führte der Mann mich in den äußeren Vorhof. Dieser war entlang der Mauer mit Pflastersteinen ausgelegt. Das Pflaster reichte von der Innenseite der Mauer so weit in den Hof hinein, dass es mit dem Ausgang des Tores abschloss. Es lag tiefer als der restliche Boden des Vorhofs. Auf dem Pflaster waren ringsum dreißig Kammern angeordnet.

Als Nächstes maß der Mann den Abstand zwischen dem Osttor — durch das wir in den äußeren Vorhof gekommen waren — und dem höher gelegenen Tor des inneren Vorhofs. Sie lagen sich genau gegenüber. Der Abstand betrug 50 Meter. Danach gingen wir zur Nordseite der äußeren Tempelmauer.
Then he measured the breadth from the forefront of the lower gate unto the forefront of the inner court without, an hundred cubits eastward and northward.
Auch dort gab es ein Tor, das in den äußeren Vorhof führte. Der Mann maß seine Länge und Breite.
The North Gate
And the gate of the outward court that looked toward the north, he measured the length thereof, and the breadth thereof.

Im Torgebäude befanden sich ebenfalls auf jeder Seite drei Kammern, die genauso groß waren wie die des Osttors. Auch die Vorhalle und das Mauerwerk an ihrem Ausgang hatten die gleichen Maße. Insgesamt war das Torgebäude 25 Meter lang und 12,5 Meter breit.
And the little chambers thereof were three on this side and three on that side; and the posts thereof and the arches thereof were after the measure of the first gate: the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
Vorhalle, Fenster und Palmwedel sahen genauso aus wie die des ersten Tores. Auf sieben Stufen stieg man zu ihm hinauf. Auch beim Nordtor führte die Vorhalle in den äußeren Vorhof.
And their windows, and their arches, and their palm trees, were after the measure of the gate that looketh toward the east; and they went up unto it by seven steps; and the arches thereof were before them.
Wie beim Osttor befand sich genau gegenüber ein höher gelegenes Tor, durch das man in den inneren Vorhof gelangte. Der Mann maß den Abstand zwischen beiden, und es waren auch hier 50 Meter.
And the gate of the inner court was over against the gate toward the north, and toward the east; and he measured from gate to gate an hundred cubits.
Danach führte er mich an die Südmauer des äußeren Vorhofs. Dort gab es ebenfalls ein Tor. Seine Vorhalle und das Mauerwerk an ihrem Ausgang hatten die gleichen Maße wie die der anderen Tore.

Am Eingang zum Nordtor war eine Kammer angebaut. Hier wurden die Eingeweide und Schenkel der Tiere gereinigt, die für das Brandopfer bestimmt waren. Durch die Tür dieses Raumes kam man in die Vorhalle des Tores.
Eight Tables for Sacrifices

Dort standen auf jeder Seite zwei Tische. Auf ihnen sollten die Tiere für die Brand-, Sünd- und Schuldopfer geschlachtet werden.

An den beiden Außenwänden der Vorhalle, rechts und links vom Toreingang, waren ebenfalls je zwei Tische aufgestellt.
And at the side without, as one goeth up to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables.
So standen auf jeder Seite des Tores vier Tische, auf denen geschlachtet wurde; insgesamt waren es acht.
Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew their sacrifices.
Die vier Tische in der Vorhalle bestanden aus Quadersteinen. Sie waren 0,75 Meter lang, ebenso breit und 0,5 Meter hoch. Auf ihnen legte man alles bereit, was man brauchte, um die Tiere für die Brandopfer und alle übrigen Opfer zu schlachten.
And the four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a cubit and an half long, and a cubit and an half broad, and one cubit high: whereupon also they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
Auch das Fleisch der Tiere wurde dort aufbewahrt. In die Wände des Torgebäudes waren ringsum Haken eingeschlagen, die eine Handbreit aus der Wand ragten.
And within were hooks, an hand broad, fastened round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the offering.
Dann gingen wir in den inneren Vorhof. Neben dem Nordtor und dem Südtor lag je ein Raum, der sich zum inneren Vorhof hin öffnete; der am Nordtor war nach Süden offen, der am Südtor nach Norden.
Rooms for the Priests
And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north.

und der Raum neben dem Südtor für die Priester, die am Altar die Opfer darbringen. Sie alle sind Nachkommen von Zadok, als Einzige aus dem Stamm Levi dürfen sie dem HERRN in seinem Tempel dienen.«

Als Nächstes maß der Mann den inneren Vorhof aus. Er hatte einen quadratischen Grundriss und war 50 Meter lang und ebenso breit. Vor dem Tempel stand der Altar.

Der Mann führte mich in die Vorhalle des Tempels. Das Mauerwerk rechts und links von ihrem Eingang war je 2,5 Meter dick. Der Toreingang hatte eine Breite von 7 Metern; zusätzlich nahmen die Mauerstücke links und rechts davon je 1,5 Meter ein.
And he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.
Die ganze Vorhalle war 10 Meter breit und 6 Meter lang. Zehn Stufen führten zu ihr hinauf. Neben den Mauerstücken auf beiden Seiten des Eingangs stand je eine Säule.
The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
