“As God lives, who has taken away my right,

Solange er mir den Atem gibt, solange ich noch Leben in mir spüre,
as long as my breath is in me,
and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,

werde ich nie die Unwahrheit sagen, kein betrügerisches Wort soll über meine Lippen kommen!

Verflucht will ich sein, wenn ich euch jemals recht gebe! Bis zum letzten Atemzug bleibe ich dabei: Ich bin unschuldig!

Ich bin im Recht — und davon lasse ich nicht ab! Ich habe ein reines Gewissen.

Wer mich verklagt, sich zu Unrecht gegen mich stellt, der soll schuldig gesprochen werden. Gott soll ihn mit vollem Recht verurteilen!

Wer Gott verachtet, hat nichts mehr zu hoffen, wenn seine Stunde schlägt, wenn Gott von ihm sein Leben fordert.
For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off,

Wenn Angst und Schrecken ihn überfallen, wird Gott sein Schreien nicht erhören.

Denn an Gott hat er sich nie gefreut, zu ihm zu beten, lag ihm fern.

»Was steht einem Menschen zu, der Gott verachtet? Welchen Lohn zahlt der Allmächtige ihm für seine skrupellosen Taten?
