Jesus aber ging zum Ölberg.

Jesus the Light of the World

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

Am frühen Morgen begab er sich wieder in den Tempel. Alles Volk kam zu ihm. Er setzte sich und lehrte es.

Now [a]early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

Da brachten die Schriftgelehrten und die Pharisäer eine Frau, die beim Ehebruch ertappt worden war. Sie stellten sie in die Mitte

Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,

und sagten zu ihm: Meister, diese Frau wurde beim Ehebruch auf frischer Tat ertappt.

they said to Him, “Teacher, [b]this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.

Mose hat uns im Gesetz vorgeschrieben, solche Frauen zu steinigen. Was sagst du?

Now [c]Moses, in the law, commanded us [d]that such should be stoned. But what do You [e]say?”

Mit diesen Worten wollten sie ihn auf die Probe stellen, um einen Grund zu haben, ihn anzuklagen. Jesus aber bückte sich und schrieb mit dem Finger auf die Erde.

This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, [f]as though He did not hear.

Als sie hartnäckig weiterfragten, richtete er sich auf und sagte zu ihnen: Wer von euch ohne Sünde ist, werfe als Erster einen Stein auf sie.

So when they continued asking Him, He [g]raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

Und er bückte sich wieder und schrieb auf die Erde.

And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

Als sie das gehört hatten, ging einer nach dem anderen fort, zuerst die Ältesten. Jesus blieb allein zurück mit der Frau, die noch in der Mitte stand.

Then those who heard it, being[h] convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

Er richtete sich auf und sagte zu ihr: Frau, wo sind sie geblieben? Hat dich keiner verurteilt?

When Jesus had raised Himself up [i]and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers [j]of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

Sie antwortete: Keiner, Herr. Da sagte Jesus zu ihr: Auch ich verurteile dich nicht. Geh und sündige von jetzt an nicht mehr!

She said, “No one, Lord.”
And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go [k]and sin no more.”

Als Jesus ein andermal zu ihnen redete, sagte er: Ich bin das Licht der Welt. Wer mir nachfolgt, wird nicht in der Finsternis umhergehen, sondern wird das Licht des Lebens haben.

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Da sagten die Pharisäer zu ihm: Du legst über dich selbst Zeugnis ab; dein Zeugnis ist nicht wahr.

Jesus Defends His Self-Witness

The Pharisees therefore said to Him, “You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not [l]true.”

Jesus erwiderte ihnen: Auch wenn ich über mich selbst Zeugnis ablege, ist mein Zeugnis wahr. Denn ich weiß, woher ich gekommen bin und wohin ich gehe. Ihr aber wisst nicht, woher ich komme und wohin ich gehe.

Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.

Ihr urteilt, wie Menschen urteilen, ich urteile über niemanden.

You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.

Wenn ich aber urteile, ist mein Urteil wahrhaftig; denn ich bin nicht allein, sondern ich und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat.

And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.

Und in eurem Gesetz steht geschrieben: Das Zeugnis von zwei Menschen ist wahr.

It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.

Ich bin es, der über mich Zeugnis ablegt, und auch der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, legt über mich Zeugnis ab.

I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.”

Da fragten sie ihn: Wo ist dein Vater? Jesus antwortete: Ihr kennt weder mich noch meinen Vater; würdet ihr mich kennen, dann würdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen.

Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?”
Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”

Diese Worte sagte er, als er im Tempel bei der Schatzkammer lehrte. Aber niemand nahm ihn fest; denn seine Stunde war noch nicht gekommen.

These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.

Ein andermal sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Ich gehe fort und ihr werdet mich suchen und ihr werdet in eurer Sünde sterben. Wohin ich gehe, dorthin könnt ihr nicht gelangen.

Jesus Predicts His Departure

Then Jesus said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.”

Da sagten die Juden: Will er sich etwa umbringen? Warum sagt er sonst: Wohin ich gehe, dorthin könnt ihr nicht gelangen?

So the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, because He says, ‘Where I go you cannot come’?”

Er sagte zu ihnen: Ihr stammt von unten, ich stamme von oben; ihr seid aus dieser Welt, ich bin nicht aus dieser Welt.

And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

Ich habe euch gesagt: Ihr werdet in euren Sünden sterben; denn wenn ihr nicht glaubt, dass ich es bin, werdet ihr in euren Sünden sterben.

Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

Da fragten sie ihn: Wer bist du denn? Jesus antwortete: Warum rede ich überhaupt noch mit euch?

Then they said to Him, “Who are You?”
And Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

Ich hätte noch viel über euch zu sagen und viel zu richten, aber er, der mich gesandt hat, ist wahrhaftig, und was ich von ihm gehört habe, das sage ich der Welt.

I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.”

Sie verstanden nicht, dass er damit den Vater meinte.

They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.

Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Wenn ihr den Menschensohn erhöht habt, dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass Ich es bin. Ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich nichts von mir aus tue, sondern nur das sage, was mich der Vater gelehrt hat.

Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift[m] up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

Und er, der mich gesandt hat, ist bei mir; er hat mich nicht alleingelassen, weil ich immer das tue, was ihm gefällt.

And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”

Als Jesus das sagte, kamen viele zum Glauben an ihn.

As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.

Da sagte er zu den Juden, die zum Glauben an ihn gekommen waren: Wenn ihr in meinem Wort bleibt, seid ihr wahrhaft meine Jünger.

The Truth Shall Make You Free

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

Dann werdet ihr die Wahrheit erkennen und die Wahrheit wird euch befreien.

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Sie erwiderten ihm: Wir sind Nachkommen Abrahams und sind noch nie Sklaven gewesen. Wie kannst du sagen: Ihr werdet frei werden?

They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

Jesus antwortete ihnen: Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Wer die Sünde tut, ist Sklave der Sünde.

Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.

Der Sklave aber bleibt nicht für immer im Haus; nur der Sohn bleibt für immer.

And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.

Wenn euch also der Sohn befreit, dann seid ihr wirklich frei.

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Ich weiß, dass ihr Nachkommen Abrahams seid. Doch ihr sucht mich zu töten, weil mein Wort in euch keine Aufnahme findet.

Abraham’s Seed and Satan’s

“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.

Ich sage, was ich beim Vater gesehen habe, und ihr tut, was ihr von eurem Vater gehört habt.

I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have [n]seen with your father.”

Sie antworteten ihm: Unser Vater ist Abraham. Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Wenn ihr Kinder Abrahams wärt, würdet ihr die Werke Abrahams tun.

They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.”
Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.

Jetzt aber sucht ihr mich zu töten, einen Menschen, der euch die Wahrheit verkündet hat, die ich von Gott gehört habe. So hat Abraham nicht gehandelt.

But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

Ihr vollbringt die Werke eures Vaters. Sie entgegneten ihm: Wir stammen nicht aus Unzucht, sondern wir haben nur den einen Vater: Gott.

You do the deeds of your father.”
Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father — God.”

Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Wenn Gott euer Vater wäre, würdet ihr mich lieben; denn von Gott bin ich ausgegangen und gekommen. Ich bin nicht von mir aus gekommen, sondern er hat mich gesandt.

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.

Warum versteht ihr nicht, was ich sage? Weil ihr nicht imstande seid, mein Wort zu hören.

Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.

Ihr habt den Teufel zum Vater und ihr wollt das tun, wonach es euren Vater verlangt. Er war ein Mörder von Anfang an. Und er steht nicht in der Wahrheit; denn es ist keine Wahrheit in ihm. Wenn er lügt, sagt er das, was aus ihm selbst kommt; denn er ist ein Lügner und ist der Vater der Lüge.

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Mir aber glaubt ihr nicht, weil ich die Wahrheit sage.

But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

Wer von euch kann mir eine Sünde nachweisen? Wenn ich die Wahrheit sage, warum glaubt ihr mir nicht?

Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?

Wer aus Gott ist, hört die Worte Gottes; ihr hört sie deshalb nicht, weil ihr nicht aus Gott seid.

He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

Da antworteten ihm die Juden: Sagen wir nicht mit Recht: Du bist ein Samariter und von einem Dämon besessen?

Before Abraham Was, I AM

Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”

Jesus erwiderte: Ich bin von keinem Dämon besessen, sondern ich ehre meinen Vater; ihr aber schmäht mich.

Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.

Ich suche nicht meine Ehre; doch es gibt einen, der sie sucht und der richtet.

And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.

Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Wenn jemand an meinem Wort festhält, wird er auf ewig den Tod nicht schauen.

Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”

Da sagten die Juden zu ihm: Jetzt wissen wir, dass du von einem Dämon besessen bist. Abraham und die Propheten sind gestorben, du aber sagst: Wenn jemand an meinem Wort festhält, wird er auf ewig den Tod nicht erleiden.

Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’

Bist du etwa größer als unser Vater Abraham? Er ist gestorben und die Propheten sind gestorben. Für wen gibst du dich aus?

Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?”

Jesus antwortete: Wenn ich mich selbst verherrliche, ist meine Herrlichkeit nichts. Mein Vater ist es, der mich verherrlicht, er, von dem ihr sagt: Er ist unser Gott.

Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is [o]your God.

Doch ihr habt ihn nicht erkannt. Ich aber kenne ihn, und wenn ich sagen würde: Ich kenne ihn nicht, so wäre ich ein Lügner wie ihr. Aber ich kenne ihn und halte an seinem Wort fest.

Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word.

Euer Vater Abraham jubelte, weil er meinen Tag sehen sollte. Er sah ihn und freute sich.

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

Die Juden entgegneten: Du bist noch keine fünfzig Jahre alt und willst Abraham gesehen haben?

Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

Jesus erwiderte ihnen: Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Noch ehe Abraham wurde, bin ich.

Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

Da hoben sie Steine auf, um sie auf ihn zu werfen. Jesus aber verbarg sich und verließ den Tempel.

Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going[p] through the midst of them, and so passed by.
