Auf dem Berg Sinai sprach der HERR zu Mose:
The Sabbath Year
The Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying,
The Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying,
»Dies sollst du den Israeliten weitersagen: Wenn ihr in das Land kommt, das ich euch schenken will, sollen nach jedem sechsten Jahr alle Äcker und Weinberge ein Jahr lang zu meiner Ehre brachliegen. Bestellt eure Felder, beschneidet eure Weinberge und erntet die Früchte eurer Arbeit sechs Jahre lang!
“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land that I give you, the land shall keep a Sabbath to the Lord.
Im siebten Jahr aber soll das Land ruhen und sich erholen. Dieses Jahr ist mir, dem HERRN, geweiht. Dann dürft ihr weder eure Felder bestellen noch eure Weinstöcke beschneiden.
but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to the Lord. You shall not sow your field or prune your vineyard.
Bringt auch keine Ernte ein, weder vom Getreide, das wild auf den Feldern wächst, noch von den Trauben an euren unbeschnittenen Weinstöcken! Das Land soll ein Ruhejahr haben.
You shall not reap what grows of itself in your harvest, or gather the grapes of your undressed vine. It shall be a year of solemn rest for the land.
Jeder darf aber einsammeln, was er für sich selbst zum Leben braucht: ihr, eure Sklaven und Sklavinnen, eure Lohnarbeiter und die Fremden, die bei euch leben.
Auch euer Vieh und die wilden Tiere können das fressen, was sie auf den Feldern finden.«
and for your cattle and for the wild animals that are in your land: all its yield shall be for food.
»Nach sieben Ruhejahren, also nach 49 Jahren,
sollt ihr im 50. Jahr am Versöhnungstag, am 10. Tag des 7. Monats, die Signalhörner im ganzen Land blasen lassen.
Then you shall sound the loud trumpet on the tenth day of the seventh month. On the Day of Atonement you shall sound the trumpet throughout all your land.
Das 50. Jahr soll für euch ein heiliges Jahr sein! Es ist ein Erlassjahr. Gebt dann allen Bewohnern des Landes, die sich hoch verschuldet haben und so zu Sklaven wurden, ihre Freiheit wieder. Jeder erhält seinen verpfändeten Grundbesitz zurück und kann zu seiner Sippe zurückkehren.
And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan.
Alle Schulden müssen in diesem Jahr erlassen werden. Streut kein Saatgut aus! Bringt keine Ernte ein — auch nicht von dem, was auf den Feldern von selbst nachwächst — und haltet keine Weinlese!
That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; in it you shall neither sow nor reap what grows of itself nor gather the grapes from the undressed vines.
Das Erlassjahr soll für euch heilig sein. Jeder darf täglich nur das einsammeln, was er zum Leben braucht.
In diesem Jahr soll auch jeder von euch seinen alten Grundbesitz zurückbekommen.
“In this year of jubilee each of you shall return to his property.
Betrügt einander nicht beim Kauf oder Verkauf von Land!
And if you make a sale to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another.
Weil im Erlassjahr jedes Stück Land wieder dem alten Besitzer zufällt, soll beim Kaufpreis berücksichtigt werden, wie viele Jahre der Käufer das Land noch bewirtschaften kann:
You shall pay your neighbor according to the number of years after the jubilee, and he shall sell to you according to the number of years for crops.
Je höher die Anzahl der Ertragsjahre ist, desto höher ist auch der Kaufpreis. Umgekehrt mindert sich der Preis umso mehr, je näher das Erlassjahr kommt. Der Preis des Landes hängt ab von der Zahl der Ernten bis zum nächsten Erlassjahr.
If the years are many, you shall increase the price, and if the years are few, you shall reduce the price, for it is the number of the crops that he is selling to you.
Betrügt einander nicht! Habt Ehrfurcht vor mir, denn ich bin der HERR, euer Gott!
You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God, for I am the Lord your God.
Haltet euch an meine Ordnungen, richtet euch nach meinen Geboten! Wenn ihr danach lebt, werdet ihr in eurem Land sicher wohnen.
“Therefore you shall do my statutes and keep my rules and perform them, and then you will dwell in the land securely.
Es wird reichen Ertrag bringen, und ihr habt genug zu essen. In Ruhe und Frieden könnt ihr dort leben.
The land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and dwell in it securely.
Wenn ihr euch fragt, was ihr im siebten Jahr essen sollt, weil ihr nicht sät und erntet,
And if you say, ‘What shall we eat in the seventh year, if we may not sow or gather in our crop?’
dann sollt ihr wissen: Ich schenke euch im sechsten Jahr genug Ertrag für drei Jahre.
I will command my blessing on you in the sixth year, so that it will produce a crop sufficient for three years.
Wenn ihr im achten Jahr wieder aussät, werdet ihr euch noch bis zur kommenden Ernte vom Ertrag des sechsten Jahres ernähren können.«
When you sow in the eighth year, you will be eating some of the old crop; you shall eat the old until the ninth year, when its crop arrives.
»Ihr dürft euren Grund und Boden nicht endgültig verkaufen, denn das Land gehört nicht euch, sondern mir! Ihr wohnt hier als Gäste.
Redemption of Property
“The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine. For you are strangers and sojourners with me.
“The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine. For you are strangers and sojourners with me.
Im ganzen Land sollt ihr ein Rückkaufsrecht auf Grund und Boden gewähren.
And in all the country you possess, you shall allow a redemption of the land.
Wenn ein Israelit verarmt und deshalb einen Teil seines Grundbesitzes verkauft, muss sein nächster Verwandter für ihn einstehen und das Grundstück zurückerwerben.
“If your brother becomes poor and sells part of his property, then his nearest redeemer shall come and redeem what his brother has sold.
Hat er keinen Verwandten, der es an seiner Stelle kauft, bringt aber selbst nach einiger Zeit die erforderliche Summe auf,
If a man has no one to redeem it and then himself becomes prosperous and finds sufficient means to redeem it,
dann soll er die Jahre seit dem Verkauf auf den Wert anrechnen und den Restwert dem Käufer auszahlen. So kommt das Grundstück wieder in seinen Besitz.
let him calculate the years since he sold it and pay back the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and then return to his property.
Wenn er aber das Geld für den Rückkauf nicht aufbringen kann, bleibt das Grundstück bis zum nächsten Erlassjahr im Besitz des Käufers. Dann wird es wieder Eigentum des ursprünglichen Besitzers.
But if he does not have sufficient means to recover it, then what he sold shall remain in the hand of the buyer until the year of jubilee. In the jubilee it shall be released, and he shall return to his property.
Wenn jemand ein Wohnhaus in einer ummauerten Stadt verkauft, gilt das Rückkaufsrecht nur für ein volles Jahr vom Verkaufsdatum an.
“If a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, he may redeem it within a year of its sale. For a full year he shall have the right of redemption.
Wird das Haus innerhalb dieses Jahres nicht zurückgekauft, bleibt es für immer im Besitz des Käufers und seiner Nachkommen und wird auch im Erlassjahr nicht zurückgegeben. Dies gilt nur für Wohnhäuser in ummauerten Städten.
If it is not redeemed within a full year, then the house in the walled city shall belong in perpetuity to the buyer, throughout his generations; it shall not be released in the jubilee.
Wohnhäuser in Dörfern ohne Stadtmauern werden rechtlich wie Land behandelt: Man kann sie immer zurückkaufen, und im Erlassjahr müssen sie zurückgegeben werden.
But the houses of the villages that have no wall around them shall be classified with the fields of the land. They may be redeemed, and they shall be released in the jubilee.
Die Leviten haben jederzeit das Recht, die Häuser in den ihnen zugeteilten Städten zurückzukaufen.
As for the cities of the Levites, the Levites may redeem at any time the houses in the cities they possess.
Nimmt ein Levit dies nicht in Anspruch, so fällt sein Eigentum im Erlassjahr wieder an ihn zurück. Denn die Häuser der Leviten in ihren Städten sind ihr einziger Besitz.
And if one of the Levites exercises his right of redemption, then the house that was sold in a city they possess shall be released in the jubilee. For the houses in the cities of the Levites are their possession among the people of Israel.
Das dazugehörige Weideland darf nie verkauft werden, denn es gehört ihnen für immer.
But the fields of pastureland belonging to their cities may not be sold, for that is their possession forever.
Wenn jemand aus deinem Volk seinen Besitz verliert und verarmt, musst du ihn genauso unterstützen wie einen Fremden oder einen Gast, der nur vorübergehend bei euch wohnt. Tu alles, was nötig ist, damit er weiterhin bei euch leben kann.
Kindness for Poor Brothers
“If your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you.

Verlange keine Zinsen und keinen Aufpreis! Hab Ehrfurcht vor mir, deinem Gott, und hilf dem Verarmten in deiner Nachbarschaft!
Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God, that your brother may live beside you.
Leih ihm zinslos Geld und Nahrungsmittel!
You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.
Ich bin der HERR, euer Gott, der euch aus Ägypten geführt hat, um euch das Land Kanaan zu geben. Ich will euer Gott sein!«
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.
»Wenn ein Israelit aus deiner Nachbarschaft in Armut gerät und sich dir als Sklave verkauft, dann sollst du ihn keine Sklavenarbeit verrichten lassen!
“If your brother becomes poor beside you and sells himself to you, you shall not make him serve as a slave:
Behandle ihn wie einen Lohnarbeiter oder wie einen Fremden, der vorübergehend bei dir lebt. Er darf höchstens bis zum nächsten Erlassjahr für dich arbeiten.
he shall be with you as a hired worker and as a sojourner. He shall serve with you until the year of the jubilee.
Dann sind er und seine Kinder wieder frei! Lass sie zu ihrer Sippe und ihrem Land zurückkehren, das sie von ihren Vorfahren geerbt haben.
Then he shall go out from you, he and his children with him, and go back to his own clan and return to the possession of his fathers.
Denn die Israeliten sind mein Eigentum, ich habe sie aus Ägypten herausgeführt. Ist einer von ihnen dein Sklave geworden, dann darfst du ihn nicht verkaufen!
Du sollst ihn auch nicht schlecht behandeln oder ihm Gewalt antun. Hab Ehrfurcht vor mir, deinem Gott!
You shall not rule over him ruthlessly but shall fear your God.
Wenn ihr Sklaven und Sklavinnen braucht, könnt ihr sie von den umliegenden Völkern kaufen,
As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you.
ebenso die im Land geborenen Kinder der Fremden, die bei euch leben. Sie sind dann euer Eigentum,
You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property.
und ihr könnt sie euren Kindern als bleibenden Besitz vererben. Ausländer dürft ihr als Sklaven erwerben, aber die Israeliten — Menschen aus eurem eigenen Volk — dürft ihr nicht wie Sklaven behandeln!
You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly.
Wenn ein Fremder, der bei euch lebt, zu Wohlstand kommt und ein armer Israelit sich an ihn oder seine Nachkommen verkauft,
Redeeming a Poor Man
“If a stranger or sojourner with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him becomes poor and sells himself to the stranger or sojourner with you or to a member of the stranger’s clan,
“If a stranger or sojourner with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him becomes poor and sells himself to the stranger or sojourner with you or to a member of the stranger’s clan,
dann muss es für den israelitischen Sklaven ein Rückkaufsrecht geben. Jemand aus seiner Familie soll ihn zurückkaufen, entweder sein Bruder,
then after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him,
sein Onkel, dessen Sohn oder ein anderer naher Verwandter aus seiner Sippe. Hat der Sklave selbst wieder Besitz erworben, kann er sich auch selbst freikaufen.
or his uncle or his cousin may redeem him, or a close relative from his clan may redeem him. Or if he grows rich he may redeem himself.
In diesem Fall muss er mit dem, der ihn gekauft hat, den Rückkaufspreis nach der Anzahl der Jahre berechnen, die zwischen dem Jahr des Kaufs und dem nächsten Erlassjahr liegen. Der Kaufpreis soll mit dem Lohn seiner Dienstjahre verrechnet werden, wobei die Arbeitszeit eines Lohnarbeiters zugrunde gelegt wird.
He shall calculate with his buyer from the year when he sold himself to him until the year of jubilee, and the price of his sale shall vary with the number of years. The time he was with his owner shall be rated as the time of a hired worker.
Wenn es bis zum nächsten Erlassjahr noch viele Jahre sind, muss er für seinen Loskauf einen entsprechend höheren Restanteil des ursprünglichen Kaufpreises zahlen.
If there are still many years left, he shall pay proportionately for his redemption some of his sale price.
Sind es nur wenige Jahre bis zum nächsten Erlassjahr, fällt der Loskaufpreis entsprechend niedriger aus.
If there remain but a few years until the year of jubilee, he shall calculate and pay for his redemption in proportion to his years of service.
Der israelitische Sklave soll von seinem Herrn den Lohn eines Arbeiters bekommen, solange er bei ihm ist. Sorgt dafür, dass er nicht wie ein Sklave behandelt wird!
He shall treat him as a worker hired year by year. He shall not rule ruthlessly over him in your sight.
Wenn er nun nicht losgekauft werden kann, muss er im Erlassjahr auf jeden Fall zusammen mit seinen Kindern freigelassen werden!
And if he is not redeemed by these means, then he and his children with him shall be released in the year of jubilee.
