When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”
Da sagte er zu ihnen: Habt ihr nicht gelesen, was David getan hat, als er und seine Begleiter hungrig waren —
He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?

He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread — which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.
Oder habt ihr nicht im Gesetz gelesen, dass am Sabbat die Priester im Tempel den Sabbat entweihen, ohne sich schuldig zu machen?
Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?
Ich sage euch: Hier ist Größeres als der Tempel.

and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?
Wie viel mehr ist ein Mensch als ein Schaf? Darum ist es am Sabbat erlaubt, Gutes zu tun.
How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
Dann sagte er zu dem Mann: Streck deine Hand aus! Er streckte sie aus und die Hand wurde wiederhergestellt — gesund wie die andere.
Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other.
Die Pharisäer aber gingen hinaus und fassten den Beschluss, Jesus umzubringen.

Er wird nicht streiten und nicht schreien und man wird seine Stimme nicht auf den Straßen hören.

Das geknickte Rohr wird er nicht zerbrechen und den glimmenden Docht nicht auslöschen, bis er dem Recht zum Sieg verholfen hat.

Und auf seinen Namen werden die Völker ihre Hoffnung setzen.

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.
Wenn also der Satan den Satan austreibt, dann ist Satan in sich selbst gespalten. Wie kann sein Reich dann Bestand haben?
If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?

And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges.
Wenn ich aber im Geist Gottes die Dämonen austreibe, dann ist das Reich Gottes schon zu euch gekommen.
But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Wie kann einer in das Haus des Starken eindringen und ihm den Hausrat rauben, wenn er nicht zuerst den Starken fesselt? Erst dann kann er sein Haus plündern.
“Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.
Wer nicht mit mir ist, der ist gegen mich; wer nicht mit mir sammelt, der zerstreut.
“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
Darum sage ich euch: Jede Sünde und Lästerung wird den Menschen vergeben werden, aber die Lästerung gegen den Geist wird nicht vergeben werden.
And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Auch wer ein Wort gegen den Menschensohn sagt, dem wird vergeben werden; wer aber etwas gegen den Heiligen Geist sagt, dem wird nicht vergeben, weder in dieser noch in der zukünftigen Welt.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.
Ihr Schlangenbrut, wie könnt ihr Gutes reden, wenn ihr böse seid? Denn wovon das Herz überfließt, davon spricht der Mund.
You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Der gute Mensch bringt aus dem guten Schatz Gutes hervor und der böse Mensch bringt aus dem bösen Schatz Böses hervor.
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
Ich sage euch aber: Über jedes unnütze Wort, das die Menschen reden, werden sie am Tag des Gerichts Rechenschaft ablegen müssen;
But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

Darauf wandten sich einige Schriftgelehrte und Pharisäer an ihn: Meister, wir möchten von dir ein Zeichen sehen.
The Sign of Jonah
Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

Er antwortete ihnen: Diese böse und treulose Generation fordert ein Zeichen, aber es wird ihr kein Zeichen gegeben werden außer das Zeichen des Propheten Jona.
He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
Denn wie Jona drei Tage und drei Nächte im Bauch des Fisches war, so wird auch der Menschensohn drei Tage und drei Nächte im Schoß der Erde sein.
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Die Männer von Ninive werden beim Gericht mit dieser Generation auftreten und sie verurteilen; denn sie sind auf die Botschaft des Jona hin umgekehrt. Und siehe, hier ist mehr als Jona.
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here.
Die Königin des Südens wird beim Gericht gegen diese Generation auftreten und sie verurteilen; denn sie kam vom Ende der Erde, um die Weisheit Salomos zu hören. Und siehe, hier ist mehr als Salomo.
The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.
Wenn ein unreiner Geist aus einem Menschen ausfährt, durchwandert er wasserlose Gegenden, um eine Ruhestätte zu suchen, findet aber keine.
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
Dann sagt er: Ich will in mein Haus zurückkehren, das ich verlassen habe. Und er kommt und findet es leer, sauber und geschmückt.
Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.
Dann geht er und nimmt sieben andere Geister mit sich, die noch schlimmer sind als er selbst. Sie ziehen dort ein und lassen sich nieder. Und die letzten Dinge jenes Menschen werden schlimmer sein als die ersten. Dieser bösen Generation wird es genauso gehen.
Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Als Jesus noch mit den Leuten redete, siehe, da standen seine Mutter und seine Brüder draußen und wollten mit ihm sprechen.

Da sagte jemand zu ihm: Siehe, deine Mutter und deine Brüder stehen draußen und wollen mit dir sprechen.
Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
Dem, der ihm das gesagt hatte, erwiderte er: Wer ist meine Mutter und wer sind meine Brüder?
He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”
Und er streckte die Hand über seine Jünger aus und sagte: Siehe, meine Mutter und meine Brüder.
Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers.
