Eliphaz Accuses and Exhorts Job
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Kann denn der Mensch Gott nützen? Nein, sich selber nützt der Kluge.
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Ist es dem Allmächtigen von Wert, dass du gerecht bist, ist es für ihn Gewinn, wenn du unsträfliche Wege gehst?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Wegen deiner Gottesfurcht sollte er dich strafen, vor Gericht mit dir gehen?
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Ist nicht groß deine Bosheit, ohne Ende dein Verschulden?
Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Du pfändest ohne Grund deine Brüder, ziehst Nackten ihre Kleider aus.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Den Durstigen tränkst du nicht mit Wasser, dem Hungernden versagst du das Brot.
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
Dem Mann der Faust gehört das Land, der Günstling darf darin wohnen.
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
Witwen hast du weggeschickt mit leeren Händen, der Verwaisten Arme zerschlagen.
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
Deswegen liegen Fallstricke rings um dich her und jäher Schrecken ängstigt dich
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
oder Finsternis, worin du nicht siehst, und Wasserflut, die dich bedeckt.
Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
Ist Gott nicht wie der Himmel hoch? Schau, wie die höchsten Sterne ragen.
Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
Und da sagst du: Was weiß denn Gott? Richtet er denn durch das dunkle Gewölk?
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
Wolken umhüllen ihn, sodass er nicht sieht, am Himmelskreis geht er einher.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Willst du dem Pfad der Vorzeit folgen, den die Männer des Unheils zogen,
Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
die vor der Zeit dahingerafft wurden, über deren Grund sich ein Strom ergoss,
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
die zu Gott sagten: Weiche von uns! und: Was kann uns der Allmächtige tun?
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
Und doch, er hat ihre Häuser mit Gütern gefüllt. Der Plan der Frevler ist mir fern.
Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Die Gerechten werden es sehen und sich freuen, der Unschuldige wird sie verspotten:
The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
Wahrhaftig, vernichtet sind unsere Gegner, ihren Rest hat das Feuer verzehrt.
Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
Werde sein Freund und halte Frieden! Nur dadurch kommt das Gute dir zu.
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Nimm doch Weisung an aus seinem Mund, leg dir seine Worte ins Herz:
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Kehrst du zum Allmächtigen um, so wirst du aufgerichtet. Hältst Unrecht deinem Zelt du fern,
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
wirfst in den Staub das Edelgold, zum Flussgestein das Feingold,
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
dann wird der Allmächtige dein Edelgold und erlesenes Silber für dich sein.
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
Dann wirst du am Allmächtigen dich erfreuen und zu Gott dein Angesicht erheben.
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Flehst du ihn an, so hört er dich und du wirst deine Gelübde erfüllen.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
Was du beschließt, trifft ein, Licht strahlt über deinen Wegen auf.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
Wer hochmütig redet, den erniedrigt man, doch hilft er dem, der die Augen senkt.
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
