So sind nun die Kinder Levis diese: Gerson, Kahath, Merari.

Levi

The sons of Levi:
Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

(So heißen aber die Kinder Gersons: Libni und Simei.

The sons of Kohath:
Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.

(Aber die Kinder Kahaths heißen: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron und Usiel.

The children of Amram:
Aaron, Moses and Miriam.
The sons of Aaron:
Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

(Die Kinder Meraris heißen: Maheli und Musi. Das sind die Geschlechter der Leviten nach ihren Vaterhäusern.

Eleazar was the father of Phinehas,
Phinehas the father of Abishua,

( Gersons Sohn war Libni; des Sohn war Jahath; des Sohn war Simma;

Abishua the father of Bukki,
Bukki the father of Uzzi,

(des Sohn war Joah; des Sohn war Iddo; des Sohn war Serah; des Sohn war Jeathrai.

Uzzi the father of Zerahiah,
Zerahiah the father of Meraioth,

( Kahaths Sohn aber war Amminadab; des Sohn war Korah; des Sohn war Assir;

Meraioth the father of Amariah,
Amariah the father of Ahitub,

(des Sohn war Elkana; des Sohn war Abiasaph; des Sohn war Assir;

Ahitub the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Ahimaaz,

(des Sohn war Thahat; des Sohn war Uriel; des Sohn war Usia; des Sohn war Saul.

Ahimaaz the father of Azariah,
Azariah the father of Johanan,

Die Kinder Elkanas waren: Amasai und Ahimoth;

Johanan the father of Azariah (it was he who served as priest in the temple Solomon built in Jerusalem),

des Sohn war Elkana; des Sohn war Elkana von Zoph; des Sohn war Nahath;

Azariah the father of Amariah,
Amariah the father of Ahitub,

des Sohn war Eliab; des Sohn war Jeroham; des Sohn war Elkana.

Ahitub the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Shallum,

Und die Kinder Samuels waren: der Erstgeborene Vasni und Abia.

Shallum the father of Hilkiah,
Hilkiah the father of Azariah,

Meraris Sohn war Maheli; des Sohn war Libni; des Sohn war Simei; des Sohn war Usa;

Azariah the father of Seraiah,
and Seraiah the father of Jozadak.a

des Sohn war Simea; des Sohn war Haggia; des Sohn war Asaja.

Jozadak was deported when the Lord sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

Dies sind aber, die David bestellte, zu singen im Hause des HERRN, als die Lade zur Ruhe gekommen war;

The sons of Levi:
Gershon,b Kohath and Merari.

und sie dienten vor der Wohnung der Hütte des Stifts mit Singen, bis daß Salomo das Haus des HERRN baute zu Jerusalem, und standen nach ihrer Weise in ihrem Amt.

These are the names of the sons of Gershon:
Libni and Shimei.

Und dies sind sie, die da standen, und ihre Kinder: Von den Kindern Kahaths war Heman, der Sänger, der Sohn Joels, des Sohnes Samuels;

The sons of Kohath:
Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.

des Sohnes Elkanas, des Sohnes Jerohams, des Sohnes Eliels, des Sohnes Thoahs,

The sons of Merari:
Mahli and Mushi.
These are the clans of the Levites listed according to their fathers:

des Sohnes Zuphs, des Sohnes Elkanas, des Sohnes Mahaths, des Sohnes Amasais,

Of Gershon:
Libni his son, Jahath his son,
Zimmah his son,

des Sohnes Elkanas, des Sohnes Joels, des Sohnes Asarjas, des Sohnes Zephanjas,

Joah his son,
Iddo his son, Zerah his son
and Jeatherai his son.

des Sohnes Thahaths, des Sohnes Assirs, des Sohnes Abiasaphs, des Sohnes Korahs,

The descendants of Kohath:
Amminadab his son, Korah his son,
Assir his son,

des Sohnes Jizhars, des Sohnes Kahaths, des Sohnes Levis, des Sohnes Israels.

Elkanah his son,
Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son,

Und sein Bruder Asaph stand zu seiner Rechten. Und er, der Asaph, war ein Sohn Berechjas, des Sohnes Simeas,

Tahath his son, Uriel his son,
Uzziah his son and Shaul his son.

des Sohnes Michaels, des Sohnes Baesejas, des Sohnes Malchias,

The descendants of Elkanah:
Amasai, Ahimoth,

des Sohnes Athnis, des Sohnes Serahs, des Sohnes Adajas,

Elkanah his son,c Zophai his son,
Nahath his son,

des Sohnes Ethans, des Sohnes Simmas, des Sohnes Simeis,

Eliab his son,
Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son
and Samuel his son.d

des Sohnes Jahats, des Sohnes Gersons, des Sohnes Levis.

The sons of Samuel:
Joele the firstborn
and Abijah the second son.

Ihre Brüder aber, die Kinder Meraris, standen zur Linken: nämlich Ethan, der Sohn Kusis, des Sohnes Abdis, des Sohnes Malluchs,

The descendants of Merari:
Mahli, Libni his son,
Shimei his son, Uzzah his son,

des Sohnes Hasabjas, des Sohnes Amazjas, des Sohnes Hilkias,

Shimea his son, Haggiah his son
and Asaiah his son.

des Sohnes Amzis, des Sohnes Banis, des Sohnes Semers,

The Temple Musicians

These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the Lord after the ark came to rest there.

des Sohnes Mahelis, des Sohnes Musis, des Sohnes Meraris, des Sohnes Levis.

They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. They performed their duties according to the regulations laid down for them.

Ihre Brüder aber, die Leviten, waren gegeben zu allerlei Amt an der Wohnung des Hauses Gottes.

Here are the men who served, together with their sons:
From the Kohathites:
Heman, the musician,
the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,

Aaron aber und seine Söhne waren im Amt, anzuzünden auf dem Brandopferaltar und auf dem Räucheraltar und zu allem Geschäft im Allerheiligsten und zu versöhnen Israel, wie Mose, der Knecht Gottes, geboten hatte.

the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham,
the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,

Dies sind aber die Kinder Aarons: Eleasar, sein Sohn; des Sohn war Pinehas; des Sohn war Abisua;

the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah,
the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,

des Sohn war Bukki; des Sohn war Usi; des Sohn war Serahja;

the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel,
the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,

des Sohn war Merajoth; des Sohn war Amarja; des Sohn war Ahitob;

the son of Tahath, the son of Assir,
the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,

des Sohn war Zadok; des Sohn war Ahimaaz.

the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath,
the son of Levi, the son of Israel;

Und dies ist ihre Wohnung und Sitz in ihren Grenzen, nämlich der Kinder Aaron, des Geschlechts der Kahathiter; denn das Los fiel ihnen zu,

and Heman’s associate Asaph, who served at his right hand:
Asaph son of Berekiah, the son of Shimea,

und sie gaben ihnen Hebron im Lande Juda und derselben Vorstädte umher.

the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah,f
the son of Malkijah,

Aber das Feld der Stadt und ihre Dörfer gaben sie Kaleb, dem Sohn Jephunnes.

the son of Ethni,
the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,

So gaben sie nun den Kindern Aaron die Freistädte Hebron und Libna samt ihren Vorstädten, Jatthir und Esthemoa mit ihren Vorstädten.

the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah,
the son of Shimei,

Hilen, Debir,

the son of Jahath,
the son of Gershon, the son of Levi;

Asan und Beth–Semes mit ihren Vorstädten;

and from their associates, the Merarites, at his left hand:
Ethan son of Kishi, the son of Abdi,
the son of Malluk,

und aus dem Stamm Benjamin: Geba, Alemeth und Anathoth mit ihren Vorstädten, daß aller Städte in ihren Geschlechtern waren 13.

the son of Hashabiah,
the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,

Aber den andern Kindern Kahaths nach ihren Geschlechtern wurden durchs Los (aus dem Stamm Ephraim, aus dem Stamm Dan und) aus dem halben Stamm Manasse zehn Städte.

the son of Amzi, the son of Bani,
the son of Shemer,

Den Kindern Gerson nach ihren Geschlechtern wurden aus dem Stamm Isaschar und aus dem Stamm Asser und aus dem Stamm Naphthali und aus dem Stamm Manasse in Basan 13 Städte.

the son of Mahli,
the son of Mushi, the son of Merari,
the son of Levi.

Den Kindern Merari nach ihren Geschlechtern wurden durchs Los aus dem Stamm Ruben und aus dem Stamm Gad und aus dem Stamm Sebulon zwölf Städte.

Their fellow Levites were assigned to all the other duties of the tabernacle, the house of God.

Und die Kinder Israel gaben den Leviten die Städte mit ihren Vorstädten,

But Aaron and his descendants were the ones who presented offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense in connection with all that was done in the Most Holy Place, making atonement for Israel, in accordance with all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

nämlich durchs Los aus dem Stamm der Kinder Juda und aus dem Stamm der Kinder Simeon und aus dem Stamm der Kinder Benjamin die Städte, die sie mit Namen bestimmten.

These were the descendants of Aaron:
Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son,
Abishua his son,

Aber den Geschlechtern der Kinder Kahath wurden Städte ihres Gebiets aus dem Stamm Ephraim.

Bukki his son,
Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,

So gaben sie nun ihnen, dem Geschlecht der andern Kinder Kahath, die Freistädte: Sichem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim, Geser,

Meraioth his son, Amariah his son,
Ahitub his son,

Jokmeam, Beth–Horon,

Zadok his son
and Ahimaaz his son.

Ajalon und Gath–Rimmon mit ihren Vorstädten.

These were the locations of their settlements allotted as their territory (they were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clan, because the first lot was for them):

Dazu aus dem halben Stamm Manasse: Aner und Bileam mit ihren Vorstädten.

They were given Hebron in Judah with its surrounding pasturelands.

Aber den Kindern Gerson gaben sie aus dem Geschlecht des halben Stammes Manasse: Golan in Basan und Astharoth mit ihren Vorstädten.

But the fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

Aus dem Stamm Isaschar: Kedes, Dabrath,

So the descendants of Aaron were given Hebron (a city of refuge), and Libnah,g Jattir, Eshtemoa,

Ramoth und Anem mit ihren Vorstädten.

Hilen, Debir,

Aus dem Stamm Asser: Masal, Abdon,

Ashan, Juttahh and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands.

Hukok und Rehob mit ihren Vorstädten.

And from the tribe of Benjamin they were given Gibeon,i Geba, Alemeth and Anathoth, together with their pasturelands.
The total number of towns distributed among the Kohathite clans came to thirteen.

Aus dem Stamm Naphthali: Kedes in Galiläa, Hammon und Kirjathaim mit ihren Vorstädten.

The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of half the tribe of Manasseh.

Den andern Kindern Merari gaben sie aus dem Stamm Sebulon: Rimmono und Thabor mit ihren Vorstädten;

The descendants of Gershon, clan by clan, were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali, and from the part of the tribe of Manasseh that is in Bashan.

und jenseit des Jordans gegenüber Jericho, gegen der Sonne Aufgang am Jordan, aus dem Stamm Ruben: Bezer in der Wüste, Jahza,

The descendants of Merari, clan by clan, were allotted twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.

Kedemoth und Mephaat mit ihren Vorstädten.

So the Israelites gave the Levites these towns and their pasturelands.

Aus dem Stamm Gad: Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim,

From the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin they allotted the previously named towns.

Hesbon und Jaser mit ihren Vorstädten.

Some of the Kohathite clans were given as their territory towns from the tribe of Ephraim.
