Das Passahfest stand kurz bevor. Jesus wusste, dass nun die Zeit gekommen war, diese Welt zu verlassen und zum Vater zurückzukehren. Er hatte die Menschen geliebt, die zu ihm gehörten, und er hörte nicht auf, sie zu lieben.
The Lord’s Supper
Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

An diesem Abend aß Jesus zusammen mit seinen Jüngern. Der Teufel hatte Judas, den Sohn von Simon Iskariot, schon zum Verrat an Jesus angestiftet.
During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,
Jesus aber wusste, dass der Vater ihm alles in die Hand gegeben hatte, dass er von Gott gekommen war und zu ihm zurückkehren würde.
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,
Da stand er vom Tisch auf, legte sein Obergewand ab und band sich ein Tuch aus Leinen um.
got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.
Er goss Wasser in eine Schüssel und begann, seinen Jüngern die Füße zu waschen und mit dem Tuch abzutrocknen.
Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
Als er zu Simon Petrus kam, wehrte dieser ab: »Herr, wie kommst du dazu, mir die Füße zu waschen!«
So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?”
Jesus antwortete ihm: »Was ich hier tue, verstehst du jetzt noch nicht. Aber später wirst du es begreifen.«
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.”
Doch Petrus blieb dabei: »Niemals sollst du mir die Füße waschen!« Worauf Jesus erwiderte: »Wenn ich dir nicht die Füße wasche, gehörst du nicht zu mir.«
Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
Da sagte Simon Petrus: »Herr, dann wasch mir nicht nur die Füße, sondern auch die Hände und das Gesicht!«
Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.”
Jesus antwortete: »Wer gebadet hat, der ist ganz rein. Ihm braucht man nur noch den Straßenstaub von den Füßen zu waschen. Ihr seid rein — aber nicht alle.«
Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”
Jesus wusste nämlich, wer ihn verraten würde. Deshalb sagte er: »Ihr seid nicht alle rein.«
For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”
Nachdem Jesus ihnen die Füße gewaschen hatte, zog er sein Obergewand wieder an, kehrte zu seinem Platz am Tisch zurück und fragte seine Jünger: »Versteht ihr, was ich eben getan habe?
So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
Ihr nennt mich Lehrer und Herr. Das ist auch richtig so, denn ich bin es.
“You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.
Wenn schon ich, euer Lehrer und Herr, euch die Füße gewaschen habe, dann sollt auch ihr euch gegenseitig die Füße waschen.
“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
Ich habe euch damit ein Beispiel gegeben, dem ihr folgen sollt. Handelt ebenso!
“For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.
Ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Ein Diener steht niemals höher als sein Herr, und ein Botschafter untersteht dem, der ihn gesandt hat.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.
Jetzt wisst ihr das und könnt euch glücklich schätzen, wenn ihr auch danach handelt.
“If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
Ich spreche nicht von euch allen; denn ich weiß, welche ich als meine Jünger ausgewählt habe. Aber was in der Heiligen Schrift vorausgesagt ist, muss sich erfüllen: ›Einer, der mit mir zusammen das Brot isst, tritt mich mit Füßen.‹
“I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.’
Schon jetzt kündige ich es euch an, damit ihr auch dann, wenn es geschieht, daran glaubt: Ich bin der, den Gott gesandt hat.
“From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He.
Ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Wer einen Menschen aufnimmt, den ich gesandt habe, der nimmt mich auf. Und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt den Vater auf, der mich gesandt hat.«
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
Nachdem Jesus dies gesagt hatte, bestätigte er tief erschüttert: »Ja, es ist wahr: Einer von euch wird mich verraten!«
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me.”
Die Jünger sahen sich fragend an und rätselten, wen er meinte.
The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know of which one He was speaking.
Ganz nah bei Jesus hatte der Jünger seinen Platz, den Jesus sehr lieb hatte.
There was reclining on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.
Simon Petrus gab ihm ein Zeichen; er sollte Jesus fragen, wen er gemeint hatte.
So Simon Peter gestured to him, and said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.”
Da beugte der Jünger sich zu Jesus hinüber und fragte: »Herr, wer von uns ist es?«
He, leaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”
Jesus antwortete ihm: »Es ist der, dem ich das Stück Brot geben werde, das ich jetzt in die Schüssel eintauche.« Darauf tauchte er das Brot ein und gab es Judas, dem Sohn von Simon Iskariot.
Jesus then answered, “That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the morsel, He took and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
Sobald Judas das Brot genommen hatte, bekam Satan ihn ganz in seine Gewalt. »Beeil dich und erledige bald, was du tun willst!«, forderte Jesus ihn auf.
After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”
Keiner von den anderen am Tisch verstand, was Jesus mit diesen Worten meinte.
Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.
Manche dachten, Jesus hätte Judas hinausgeschickt, um alles Nötige für das Fest einzukaufen oder den Armen etwas zu geben. Denn Judas verwaltete das Geld von Jesus und seinen Jüngern.
For some were supposing, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we have need of for the feast”; or else, that he should give something to the poor.
Nachdem Judas das Brot genommen hatte, eilte er hinaus. Es war Nacht.
So after receiving the morsel he went out immediately; and it was night.
Als Judas fort war, sagte Jesus: »Jetzt zeigt Gott, wer der Menschensohn wirklich ist, und dadurch wird auch die Herrlichkeit Gottes sichtbar.
Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him;
Wenn der Menschensohn erst Gottes Herrlichkeit gezeigt hat, dann wird auch Gott die Herrlichkeit des Menschensohnes sichtbar machen. Und das geschieht bald!
if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.
Denn bei euch, meine Kinder, werde ich nur noch kurze Zeit sein. Ihr werdet mich suchen. Doch was ich den führenden Juden gesagt habe, muss ich jetzt auch euch sagen: Wohin ich gehen werde, dahin könnt ihr mir nicht folgen.
“Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’
Ich gebe euch jetzt ein neues Gebot: Liebt einander! So wie ich euch geliebt habe, so sollt ihr euch auch untereinander lieben.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
An eurer Liebe zueinander wird jeder erkennen, dass ihr meine Jünger seid.«
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Da fragte ihn Simon Petrus: »Herr, wohin gehst du?« Jesus antwortete ihm: »Wo ich hingehe, kannst du jetzt nicht mitkommen. Aber du wirst mir später folgen.«
Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.”
»Lass mich doch jetzt bei dir bleiben«, bat ihn Petrus und beteuerte: »Ich bin sogar bereit, für dich zu sterben!«
Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You.”
