Eine Unterweisung Asaphs. Höre, mein Volk, mein Gesetz; neiget eure Ohren zu der Rede meines Mundes!
Ich will meinen Mund auftun zu Sprüchen und alte Geschichten aussprechen,

daß wir’s nicht verhalten sollten ihren Kindern, die hernach kommen, und verkündigten den Ruhm des HERRN und seine Macht und Wunder, die er getan hat.

Er richtete ein Zeugnis auf in Jakob und gab ein Gesetz in Israel, das er unsern Vätern gebot zu lehren ihre Kinder,

auf daß es die Nachkommen lernten und die Kinder, die noch sollten geboren werden; wenn sie aufkämen, daß sie es auch ihren Kindern verkündigten,

wie die Kinder Ephraim, die geharnischt den Bogen führten, abfielen zur Zeit des Streits.
Sie hielten den Bund Gottes nicht und wollten nicht in seinem Gesetz wandeln

Er zerteilte das Meer und ließ sie hindurchgehen und stellte das Wasser wie eine Mauer.

Dennoch sündigten sie weiter wider ihn und erzürnten den Höchsten in der Wüste

und versuchten Gott in ihrem Herzen, daß sie Speise forderten für ihre Seelen,

und redeten wider Gott und sprachen: Ja, Gott sollte wohl können einen Tisch bereiten in der Wüste?

“Can God spread a table in the wilderness?

Siehe, er hat wohl den Felsen geschlagen, daß Wasser flossen und Bäche sich ergossen; aber wie kann er Brot geben und seinem Volk Fleisch verschaffen?

Da nun das der HERR hörte, entbrannte er, und Feuer ging an in Jakob, und Zorn kam über Israel,

Aber über das alles sündigten sie noch mehr und glaubten nicht an seine Wunder.

Darum ließ er sie dahinsterben, daß sie nichts erlangten und mußten ihr Leben lang geplagt sein.
Wenn er sie erwürgte, suchten sie ihn und kehrten sich zu Gott

Er aber war barmherzig und vergab die Missetat und vertilgte sie nicht und wandte oft seinen Zorn ab und ließ nicht seinen ganzen Zorn gehen.

Denn er gedachte, daß sie Fleisch sind, ein Wind, der dahinfährt und nicht wiederkommt.

Wie oft erzürnten sie ihn in der Wüste und entrüsteten ihn in der Einöde!

Sie versuchten Gott immer wieder und meisterten den Heiligen in Israel.

Sie gedachten nicht an seine Hand des Tages, da er sie erlöste von den Feinden;
wie er denn seine Zeichen in Ägypten getan hatte und seine Wunder im Lande Zoan;

da er böse Engel unter sie sandte in seinem grimmigen Zorn und ließ sie toben und wüten und Leid tun;
He let loose on them his burning anger,
wrath, indignation, and distress,

da er seinen Zorn ließ fortgehen und ihre Seele vor dem Tode nicht verschonte und übergab ihr Leben der Pestilenz;

da er alle Erstgeburt in Ägypten schlug, die Erstlinge ihrer Kraft in den Hütten Hams,

Und er leitete sie sicher, daß sie sich nicht fürchteten; aber ihre Feinde bedeckte das Meer.

Und er brachte sie zu seiner heiligen Grenze, zu diesem Berge, den seine Rechte erworben hat,

und vertrieb vor ihnen her die Völker und ließ ihnen das Erbe austeilen und ließ in jener Hütten die Stämme Israels wohnen.

Aber sie versuchten und erzürnten Gott den Höchsten und hielten seine Zeugnisse nicht

und fielen zurück und verachteten alles wie ihre Väter und hielten nicht, gleichwie ein loser Bogen,

und erzürnten ihn mit ihren Höhen und reizten ihn mit ihren Götzen.

Und da das Gott hörte, entbrannte er und verwarf Israel ganz,
